If you can't vote in next month's presidential election, we want to hear from you.

Are you an Irish emigrant abroad? An Irish citizen in Northern Ireland? Or a British, EU or non-EU citizen living in the Republic?

We'll reflect your views in a forthcoming article. http://jrnl.ie/6828531f

We want to hear whether and how emigrants, immigrants and Irish citizens in the North would vote if they could.

I’ve wondered the same thing. Stamps are never easy to find, at least not compared to back in the day when most corner shops (or equivalent) sold them in touristy areas.

Interesting thread 🧵 about the tech mindset.

1/ A longtime Wired editor just wrote a mush-brained essay about how he totally missed the political rot of Silicon Valley (& still doesn't get it).

But in the late 1990s, a Wired journalist warned of a toxic ideology bubbling up from tech. Paulina Borsook has largely been erased. Let's change that

Reason replied, “Believe me, many crucial and worthy arts and sciences have been discovered thanks to the ingenuity and cleverness of women, both in the theoretical sciences expressed through the written word, and in the technical crafts.”

As far as I’m aware you only don’t have to register tenants who are immediate family… Pretty sure most landlords own their own property.

The absolute joy of home grown carrots #gardening
A home grown carrot lying on a wooden chopping board. The top of the carrot is dark green fading to golden yellow legs splayed left and right and a small third appendage in the middle, lying to the left, that looks decidedly male.

I'm sorry, worldwide, irrevocable, non-exclusive, transferable permission to my voice and likeness? For what now? In any manner for any purpose???

This is in academia/.edu's new ToS, which you're prompted to agree to on login. Anyway I'll be jumping ship. You can find my stuff at hcommons.org.
By creating an Account with Academia.edu, you grant us a worldwide, irrevocable, non-exclusive, transferable license, permission, and consent for Academia.edu to use your Member Content and your personal information (including, but not limited to, your name, voice, signature, photograph, likeness, city, institutional affiliations, citations, mentions, publications, and areas of interest) in any manner, including for the purpose of advertising, selling, or soliciting the use or purchase of Academia.edu's Services.

The new TOS for acad…a dot edu are a bit much. Sad to have to delete my account -it’s been a valuable resource/tool for an independent, rural-based researcher- but I simply cannot consent.

How to delete your account without agreeing to the new TOS:

In the dialogue box asking you to agree, DO NOT click agree. Instead, click on the TOS link which will open another tab. In the top right of that tab you can go to your account settings and delete your account.

If you’re on academia dot edu, let me suggest that you strongly consider deleting your account.

Racism isn’t innate, writes Dr Steve Taylor.

It’s a sign of insecurity and poor psychological health, not a hardwired human instinct.

From #TheConversation -- thanks!
Here are the five stages that may lead to racism
There is no genetic or biological basis for dividing the human race into distinct “races”
