BBC4 is repeating Bryan Magee’s 1987 series, The Great Philosophers, and I introduce it next Monday 13th at 22.30. I remember being very impressed when it went out that my wonderful PhD supervisor, Myles Burnyeat, was in the very first episode!

A small fire at the front of the bookshop was started last night after rubbish bags that were awaiting collection were set on fire. The guards don’t have reason at this time to believe it was a targeted attack. Thankfully the damage was limited and everyone is safe. We are open for business as usual

A few online orders or in-store book purchases would be a nice way to support Books Upstairs after this horrible attack. Who does this? To an independent book shop?

Ha. The unmistakable architectural glory & outstanding brioche combo gave it away. If you have time, there’s a memorial to Binario 21: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memoria...

Ireland has lost a mountain of libraries with the passing of Manchán Magan. A brilliant, gentle, inspiring treasure of a spirit.

As a friend said last night, “He described the Irish language as potent and infinite, but that was him too.”

Seol go réidh, mo chara.

This is fantastic: "Joyce shows that the British Empire's demand for binary selves has colonised the mind of the self-defined Irish nationalist and points to a radical and freeing alternative"🏳️‍⚧️💛🤍💜🖤

So grateful to @sonjatiernan.bsky.social & editors of #Saothar50 for opportunity to write on Irish housewives. By mad coincidence my ma was interviewed about her everyday experiences in 1968 & that features in my new article. #familyhistory #femaleactivism

Ah, what a treasure you have in your office! I loved the film, only sorry I hadn’t seen it before - heartbreaking, tender, furious, brilliant, shamefully relevant.

Thanks! I just watched it - it's incredibly moving. Wonderful to see Minnie Bruce Pratt, too.

I'd like to watch this but the link did this ⬇️. However, if I search "Leslie Feinberg" I can see materials. Do you know the name of the short film?
