It is fucking insane that we had a decade of people complaining about the dangers of cancel culture, and now literally hundreds of thousands of people are being purged from government jobs for ideological reasons, but that is not cancel culture.

Places where your newborn children are (for now) automatic citizens of the United States:

CA, CO, CT, DE, DC, HI, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, NJ, NM, NV, NY, NC, RI, VT, WI, City of San Francisco

In every other state, the Republican Party has stolen birthright citizenship from your newborn children.

The upshot of this decision, for now, seems to be exactly the crazy patchwork scenario we were warned about:

- the lower-court injunctions continue to protect the parties (immigrant orgs, individuals and 22 states) from Trump's EO
- the EO can (and will) be enforced in the other 28 states

1/6 Happy Friday from Project Liberty! Here’s our Week in Review for June 13-20. The third TikTok ban-or-sale delay was the big news this week – but here are more headlines that caught our eye. Let’s dive in 👇

Let’s be very clear: Los Angeles is the perfect place for this to play out for the Trumpists. The Trumpists hate California and hate Los Angeles and a vast amount of their base feels the same — even the Trumpists here, who wallow in hating the place they live.

Gen Z says go "touch grass," the Olds say "stop and smell the flowers." As you enjoy the long weekend and honor the brave individuals who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country, we hope you get to log off and connect with friends, family, neighbors, and flowers.
Photos of flowers were taken by a Project Liberty staff member during a drive from Carlsbad to San Diego last month. Tonight, hours after the Paul Weiss news broke, an associate at Skadden Arps sent a firm-wide email:

"Please consider this email my two week notice, revocable if the firm comes up with a satisfactory response to the current moment...We do not have time. It is now or it is never..."
Jeremy and colleagues, Many deals I work on have concepts of conditional
notice. This is mine. Please consider this email my two week notice, revocable if the firm comes up with a satisfactory response to the current moment, which should include at minimum (i) signing on to the firm amicus brief in support of Perkins Coie in its litigation fighting the Trump administration's executive order against it, ii) committing to broad future representation, regardless of whether powerful people view it as adverse to them, (iii) refusal to cooperate with the EEOC's request for personal information of our colleagues clearly targeted at intimidating non-white employees, (iv) public refusal to fire or otherwise force out employees at the Trump administration's directive or implied directive and (v) public commitment to maintenance of affinity
groups and related initiatives. This is not what I saw for my career or for my evening, but Paul Weiss' decision to cave to the Trump administration on DEl, representation and staffing has forced my hand. We do not have time. It is now or it is never, and if it is never, I will not
continue to work here.

As hard as these times can be, weeks like this remind me what it's all about - grateful for the many inspiring convos I had 💫

Many of us have been doing the work quietly - but it's time we come together + are loud.

Tech will only be people-centered if and when we fund it, build it, + demand it.

Feeling energized after a great Confluence Philanthropy panel today.

Now, more than ever, we need to work together to shape critical technologies.

💡Key insight: It's not just about $. It's about being loud about equity + justice when you have a seat at the table, especially as an investor.

18F, the federal government’s technology shop, was just demolished by Musk’s team. It was a cost-recoverable org, charging agencies for their expertise, using a consulting model. Its cost to government was negligible, its benefits huge. My team there once saved DoD $500 million.

A thread about 18F:

18F is *precisely* what Musk and team claim should exist within government. But when his team found it, they destroyed it, because it is evidence that government works well (can’t have that!), and because like Zelensky, 18F didn’t bend the knee.
