Oh, and the program which is blocked? Democracy, obviously. That shit is gone and ain’t comin’ back anytime soon.

This isn’t a misplaced apostrophe per se; I’m just bugged by the use of the contraction. I mean, there is plenty of space to write “This program is blocked in your area.” WHY DOES EVERYTHING SUCK RIGHT NOW???

Los Angeles Mirror, October 8, 1956. Rick Nelson used to troll his parents Ozzie and Harriet by putting on an Elvis record and then leaving the room! Well done.

"Elvis Presley," says Ozzie, sagely, "represents everything that your mother has told you not to do."

Cleveland Plain Dearler, October 8, 1956. "You've swooned to his singing! Thrilled to his dancing and guitar playing! Now, be the first to wear the ELVIS PRESLEY Head Scarfs, with his pictures and signatures, and excerpts from his latest records. And it's budget priced! Get yours today!"

Weird how Antifa never asks me for money. Everyone else does, but Antifa is very quiet.

this is an explicitely nazi administration and anyone who still supports them should be viewed as such

Incredible.

Jack Posobiec references the earliest version of antifa -- the anti-fascists in the Weimar Republic who were opposed to the Nazi Party -- as the bad guys.

Everything I did made Cally angry, but few things made her angrier than when I suggested she learn how to do something for herself. When she first moved across the country into my home in SF in 1999, she devolved into a tantrum when I suggested that she should learn how to get around SF on her own.

I used to host a lot of open mics, which my abusive partner Cally disliked because she didn't want me to leave the house at all, let alone for something fun. After I broke up with her in March 2005 she started attending my shows, and once berated me over chat because of how I adjusted a microphone.

Dems can just clip the "we took the freedom of speech away" and make an ad

Trump: "We took the freedom of speech away because that's been through the courts and the courts said you have freedom of speech, but what has happened is when they burn a flag it agitates and irritates crowds."

That's a point for LOST IN SPACE, for sure!

And not just because the women are distracting Spock's boyfriend, but that certainly enters into it.

St. Joseph News-Press, October 8, 1966. "William Shatner (standing) and Leonard Nimoy, as Capt. Kirk & Mr. Spock, intercept a disabled spacecraft and turn up a cargo of beautiful women on NBC-TV's Star Trek colorcast Thursday evening at 7:30." I feel Spock's look of disdain in this picture so much.

Zanesville Times-Recorder, October 8, 1966. I'm sure this episode description took an unexpected turn for most people.

"8:30 PM *STAR TREK -- Capt. Kirk and Mr. Spock discover that the pilot of a disabled space ship is running an interplanetary mail-order bride business."

Oh, and this is from their 2024 Active Shooter Incidents Report, which was published in June 2025. I guess they hadn't yet gotten the memo from Ch*rl*e K*rk about his make-believe rampage of transgender shooters.
sherilyn.bsky.social
I did a word-specific search through DuckDuckGo and got a bunch of results, but I checked those pages and none none of them include the word "transgender." Not even as spamdexing in the source code! Curiouser and curiouser.
sherilyn.bsky.social
I spend far more time looking at eff bee eye dot gov than is probably wise for a transgender woman in 2025--here's to hoping NordVPN helps!--but my curiosity gets the better of me because surely by now they've started posting stuff about how dangerous trans people are, right? But they haven't.

New York Daily News, January 23, 1966. For comparison's sake, the original Sam Norkin caricature of Gwen Verdon ("in the role of a Times Square taxi dancer") in Sweet Charity.

Chicago Tribune, October 8, 1967. Chita Rivera even got her own Sam Norkin caricature for the role, which is pretty great.
