I was speculating about custom freemotion quilting, ruler work, etc., not panto. Outlining each plate right inside the edge would be the most secure way of attaching them at the quilting stage.

I'd probably fully secure them to the top before quilting (due to my own limitations) by gluing them down with Elmer's under the edges and straight/decorative stitching. If one were to rely on quilting only—which is valid!—they'd have to catch every edge pretty closely.

Was wondering why the latest @yourewrongabout.bsky.social episode sounded familiar. It's because I heard the story on 'This Is Love' in August. I'll still listen to Blair tell Sarah about it!

Oh, wait, this is the one Ruby Tandoh wrote. I read that already!

Bill mentioned that things look autumnal and as I replied, "Spooktacular," I thought, Scott would be appalled.

I missed this from a couple of months ago: Inside the World of “The Great British Bake Off”. “No show does so much to hide its true nature: namely, that it is a competition people desperately want to win.” [newyorker.com]
Inside the World of “The Great British Bake Off”
The show captures disastrous custard-making, quintessentially British faux-modesty, and the blistering hubris of bakers—including me.

It clearly reads to me (at least in part) as "I'm not here to talk to men, doofus" but what do I know.

Birth in Gaza often means sharing incubators, giving birth without anesthesia during power outages, and risking infection because water and sanitation systems are destroyed. interc.pt/42vx3lD
A photo illustration of a mother and child, overlaid with the headline, "Mothers in Gaza Give Life to the Next Generation of Palestinians Despite Genocide," and the DEK, "As the Israeli government enters the third year of ethnic cleansing in Gaza, mothers keep bringing new Palestinians into the world."

"There’s a different, much more positive way to look at [something like a stain or a tear in a museum collection item], and that is the idea that these clothes have lived a life and that they were, in fact, important to someone and had this kind of moment in the sun.” Same for quilts!
Instead of hiding rips and tears, the visible mending movement turns them into art
Born from the Japanese art of sashiko, visible mending enables crafters to eschew fast fashion and make mistakes beautiful.

The police funding discussion was laughed at… “what do you mean DEFUND the police?”.

Funding levels have skyrocketed to support the activities we see right now.

Now it’s “…but nobody knew it would be this bad…”

Yeah, WE knew!

I’ve thought about this a lot. We’re back in the 19th century: “Show me your walking papers.”

Gov. Pritzker: "[ICE is] just picking up people who are brown and black and then checking their credentials. I don't know about you, but I don't carry around papers that say I'm a U.S. citizen. So U.S. citizens are getting detained and arrested."

I think headlines are written by an editor, not the author, so that could be why it's weird.
