“A House of Dynamite” is a huge departure from Kathryn Bigelow’s other military films, whether or not she means it to be. Silly and frustrating in parts, it makes for a tense, surprisingly funny junk food thriller steeped in lost idealism. #NYFF63

“Dear Stranger” follows a Japanese husband and a Taiwanese-American wife, in a New York-set tale of intrigue that wields the awkward intricacies of English as a 2nd (or 3rd) language to enhance its drama. Also, Hidetoshi Nishijima drives his car. #BIFF2025 joysauce.com/dear-strange...

“The son of a tobacco farmer who, as a young man, worked alongside immigrants during the summers of his youth. In doing so, he learned the values of hard work, collective action, and perhaps most importantly, respect for his fellow man."

Cowboy shit.

“One Battle After Another” arrives as a sorely needed outlier in a mainstream cinematic culture where politics is smuggled — if it’s present at all — inside stories about wizards, aliens and young adult dystopias.
