If you happen to see the September issue of @bylinetimes.bsky.social make sure you grab a copy 💁‍♀️

Replete with top-notch investigative reporting, this month’s edition also features a new ‘Diaspora Dinners’ column in which I share a 🇳🇴Norwegian recipe for a simple, yet delicious hot-smoked trout dish🐟

I feel like this photo of masked, armed men pepper spraying a pastor protecting his community is going to be a defining picture of this moment in America for a long, long time.

This excuse might have worked for 2016 but not for 2024. They knew and yet, they still voted for all of this.

“I voted for none of this."

Prominent influencers, including Theo Von, Joe Rogan, and Andrew Schulz, are starting to distance themselves from the president they helped propel to the White House.

One of the more incredible stories out of LA this year has been how a taco review blog became the best on-the-ground coverage of ICE raids in the city.

They do a dispatch every day, follow-up on the kidnapped people (which almost no media outlet has done), and fact-check government claims.

@lataco.bsky.social first began as a blog documenting local Mexican cuisine. Now, it’s an essential reporting powerhouse to the city as Trump’s mass deportation plot unfolds.

If I were really to go all in on the indulgence I’d also have croissants flown in from a Parisian boulangerie and an Imperial Torte dispatched from Vienna 😉

And we all know Trump, Miller and all the goons supporting them would never have “won” WW2 because they would have supported the bloody Nazis

You say that but I have a few close friends who (and I can’t quite believe this is possible) are indifferent to chocolate.

Aside from what’s always present in our kitchen (eggs, bread, ABBA anchovies, Norwegian “kaviar” in a tube, the usual suspects) I’ve added some favourite ingredients below Naomi’s post, and hope you’ll play this game too! 🥰 #KitchenTreats

a fun game for Sunday evening. you arrive at an AirBnB on a cold wet October evening. what *ten ingredients* would you most like to find they've left for you in the kitchen?

(you also have tea, coffee, sugar, milk, olive oil, chocolate, salt & pepper)

A meal that features a whole turbot AND a ridiculously fancy cheese? The *dream* 🥰

Dammit I missed the detail about you including chocolate (unlikely to be 85% though?!)
signesjohansen.bsky.social
Now THIS is a fun game. If I could pick any ingredients…

* Turbot
* Pistachios
* Fennel
* All olives
* Anchovies
* Garlic
* Mixed berries (frozen)
* Passionfruit
* 85% dark chocolate
* A whole Tête de Moine, with the accompanying slicer (essential)

“Don’t give up”

Impossible not to be moved by Jane Goodall’s gentle words of encouragement here (and she was right about gathering all the worst monsters on this earth and shooting them into space on one of Musk’s rockets)

Feel much the same, although am tempted by the American one because I find Steve Carrell utterly delightful.

Ditto. And guess who tried to tell (unbeknownst to me) one of the co-creators of The Office that Ricky Gervais just wasn’t that funny (managed to squeeze in “anymore” as he told me who he was 🫠)

Inspired by a post I just saw in which someone admitted they hadn’t seen a single episode of Friends nor the film Love Actually… what cultural hole do you have that’s a bit weird for your generation?

I’ll go first: I haven’t seen Dirty Dancing.
