It's like every other nonsense prejudice: used by elites to divide the people under them amongst themselves. It causes all sorts of harm both to the intended targets & others from spillover effects. It's amazing seeing how the same script is used everywhere with different outgroups.

There's a really good paper on this at this effect at the municipal level: cities that had more influx from the great migration saw correspondingly lowered support for city institutions like public pools and a move to greater privatization.

There's a big confounding variable here: the reason we don't have the type of social programs common in other developed countries after WW2 is that rich opponents leveraged racism to get poor whites to oppose universal programs. City/state ethnic balance affects white support for social programs.

They're not here to prevent permanent decisions from being made too early and without sufficient information. They're fine with medically aligning a kid's body to be "normal," but not giving an adolescent or adult autonomy about their own body and what best suits them.

Yep! They're all perfectly fine with medical intervention when it aligns an intersex kid's body to what is typical for their assigned sex. There's no talk about waiting until the kid is an adult to decide what they want-- sometimes they even intervene when the kid is a baby & obviously has no input.
