And ICE has been disappearing American citizens, because their primary criterion on deciding who to approach is how not-white they are
Because legally qualified American voters don't want to be harassed and intimidated by masked gunmen as a condition of going to vote. Is that really hard to understand?

Bullshit.
Homan: "When they say 'stop racial profiling' -- that's just not occurring. ICE will briefly detain and question somebody based on reasonable suspicion. It has nothing to do with racial profiling."

As a child protection professional, I can tell you the death penalty is NOT an awesome solution to child sexual abuse. Most children are abused by family members; they will not report if their family members will die as a result.

You ever stop and think about CASABLANCA? You ever stop and think about "Welcome back to the fight, this time, I know our side will win?" You ever think about a bar full of people defiantly singing La Marseillaise, played by a soundstage full of Jewish refugees? You ever think about CASABLANCA??????

Had an IC class where I read a bunch of interviews with former warlord/terrorist recruits and it was very interesting how many of them were using ideology as a vehicle for violence instead of using violence to pursue an ideology. "Excitement" was one of the main reasons a lot of them joined!
Yes. This is it. Some people believe their politics; other people adopt politics as an excuse to hurt other people for fun and tell themselves it’s for a good cause and they can’t be blamed.

The internet has let all the people in the latter group find each other and make better rationalizations.
I often think the real ideological divide online is not really ideology by whether politics exists as a permission structure for behaviour or not

Terrible people fighting other terrible people is generally good. That said, the last thing we all need is for Noem & Lewandowski to get yeeted & cause a reduction in public pressure only to have them replaced with some other ghouls. They *all* need the Hague, not just the figureheads.
As always with pieces like this, there’s the story-proper and the “why are we hearing this story?”–story, which is often equally interesting. (In this case: Lots of folks within Trumpworld regard Noem/Lewandowski with contempt and would happily see them ousted.)
The Wall Street Journal story on Noem and Lewandowski is just a bus running over them, backing up, running over them again, and on and on. A line of admin officials waiting to get their turn at the wheel.

Yep. Conspiracies tend to be syncretic because there's no pressure to evaluate any particular claim, so they just get bolted together.
One issue here is crank convergence, and the escalation ladder of a competitive media environment. The other is that there's no social cost to beliefs anymore, being a 9/11 truther or an anti-vaxer or a Nazi doesn't actually *mean* as much as it used to, because identity has become so cheap.
Going to need to a complete and total shutdown on podcasters and political livestreams until we can figure out what’s going on

Yeah, I’m sort of convinced that Epstein, rather than being in some kind of far-reaching conspiracy with elites, was instead SCAMMING THOSE ELITES. He was a fraud, who illicitly acquired a fortune, then used it plus the girls around him to open doors and pass himself off as something he wasn’t.
Couple getting your first few hundred million in that way with then trading off the incredible insider information your network of “friends” sends to you, and there’s no huge mystery to solve as to Epstein’s wealth.

He didn’t need to blackmail. Real soft power is subtler than that.

So I think everyone knows what Chuck E. Cheese is but for non-parents who don't know what LifeTouch is, it's the company that for decades has had a near-monopoly on school pictures.
Finding out that top execs from both LifeTouch and Chuck E. Cheese are in the Epstein files has pissed me off in a way that I didn’t think was still possible.

The *best version* of the Epstein scandal is that a wide swathe of American elites was palling around with a known child predator and explicit eugenicist for years on end — and is now closing ranks to downplay the severity of his crimes and their own complicity.

Across the country, ICE raids are being carried out with excessive force, little transparency, and devastating consequences for families. When enforcement looks like a military operation and accountability is absent, people get hurt and trust in law enforcement breaks down.

Remember when "America has many groups of people in it and that's good and makes us strong" was an uncontroversial - even cliched - viewpoint that was universally endorsed across the political spectrum?

We can go back! We just have to get rid of the tiny handful of bitter, angry men in the way.

THIS
I was literally just talking at length yesterday about how I don’t think about my gender much until I run into a wall, usually via a cis dude locked into rigid scripts.

It doesn’t even have to be violent, sexual, or extreme — it can be banal & “harmless” exclusion of women from camaraderie & trust.
the Epstein files are really devastating because they remind me of how many girls and women miss out on professional opportunities, mentorship and careers because of how many powerful, rich and influential men only view girls and women — and interactions with them — through the lens of sex
