Like I said in the thread above, I went no contact with my mom because of her Zionism. I feel like that IS "fighting against my zionist kin." What is it you think I should do? What does that phrase mean to you?

I'm not trying to argue, but is this not a contradiction? By speaking about my experiences, I turn myself into a victim. Yet you also want me to expose the flaws in my community, which I can only do by speaking about my experiences.

I have read that essay. I agree with the points made in it, and I agree with everything you've said in this specific post. In college, I wrote a paper on the Jewish anarchist movement of 1900s Manhattan, and how that movement collapsed as Zionism gained popularity. It shocked me, because my entire family is from New York City, and I hadn’t even heard of it before.

The point I was trying to make is that while Zionism is dependent on Judaism, Judaism is not dependent on Zionism. I felt people on here were treating American Jews like a monolithic group, and it angered me. Not only does it group multiple modern communities together (hasidic, reform, whatever they’re doing up in kiryas Joel), but it ignores the rich history of anti-Zionist Judaism in the United States.

I think it also flattens what Judaism actually IS. It ignores the true nature of the community and how it works, and makes it even harder to disconnect Jewish identity from Zionism.

This even happened yesterday on an individual level. I was (and still kind of am) angry that people were explaining my own community to me. That they did not understand it, and then used that misunderstanding to deliberately mischaracterize my beliefs. I came in cold, they came in hot, and then I came in even hotter.

But this is where I need to apologize. When one person misunderstands me, I could blame them for not listening. But when multiple people misunderstand me, then I’m doing a really fucking bad job of making an argument. So I am legitimately sorry about that

I'm gonna take this question in good faith and give a real answer. A few weeks ago, I made a post talking about the Jewish community in America, and how I disappointed I was in its steadfast support of Zionism. I received responses accusing me of making the conflict about myself.

This argument started because I responded to one of BE's posts with "alright man." I try not to argue with other pro-Palestine creators. But he baited me, implying I was a zionist, and I fell for it. I regret that. But I'm not the person you believe me to be. I hope you get what I'm trying to say.

When I say "free palestine," I swear on my life that I mean it. I'm not Ethan Klein; using fake support for Palestine to mask liberal Zionist talking points. I don't think Israel should exist. It's a fascist, ethno-religious supremacist state.

I don't know what I could say to convince you. I could point to my decade-long support for Palestine. My many posts about the shame I feel in being an anti-zionist jew surrounded by zionists. The fact that I no longer talk to my mom because of her islamophobic beliefs.

In this thread, you lament how people read into the worst version of what you say. To paint you as something you're not. Yet you do that in the exact post I'm responding to.
