To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their HR department.

"the nature of your duties may also require you to ... work abroad ... permanently ... at the discretion of the employer"

And they're expecting me to sign this? FFS.

Just got a special offer notification from amazon Japan for the Japanese version of the Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy.

Despite having ~25 unread books in my kindle pile already, I've bought it mostly out of curiosity.

Nothing ruins a comedy sketch on YouTube more than accidentally reading the AI summary.

Cannot see a way of turning it off.

Can't wait for the whole thing to burn to the ground. AI / civilization, whichever goes first.

Bloody hell. State of shock.

Not only did the nice lady from Vodafone actually ring me back, which has never happened before, she also phoned back when she said she would.

And then, in addition, even more amazingly, did everything she could to solve the problem with only minor pushing from me.

I don't remember Vodafone always being this fucking useless.

An hour on the phone today to 3 companies, two of whome agree that I don't owe any money to Vodafone, and the third demanding I pay £21.73 or they'll send the boys round.

Next, complains to the regulators, GDPR correction letters. FML.

Chat amongst traders.

Apparently people are following the puts / calls of someone/people close to the US administration.

The visible from space insider trading in the US government is leaking fast enough to make money off.

I'm sure this is fine for market stability.

Thought there was something wrong with my headphones, but it turned out to just be compressed audio.

Decided to end our fortnight in Japan with few days relaxing in the countryside.

Currently trying to convince everyone that a restored C16 samurai residence *with working original kitchen and traditional audience room* isn't over the top.

Trying to find a nice 3 bed apartment in Tokyo for next year.

So many options I've just rejected a place because I didn't like the cutlery.

Just had to age verify for something that I couldn't VPN around. Frankly... Not especially shocked this worked.

Also, the black toner is running out...

It's taken me all week, but I've finally got this piece of software working after a minor update to the on disk storage format.

Turns out all I had to do was replace all of the code that had previously been written by a baboon on acid with something sensible.

I swear this dog could detect cheese being taken out of the fridge from miles away. In his sleep.

Here, he is in his standard begging stance, sitting, one paw slightly in front of the other, ears at half mast.

"Can I go to Reading festival next year?"

"Erm, I guess so."

"Can we buy the ticket now?"

"Sure... Hang on, why do you need my help?"

"They're expensive."

JFHC.

AI has gone too far and must be immediately banned; it's messing with path auto complete.

It's guessing what path I might want to type, rather than, y'know, auto completing what I have actually typed.

Fucking madness.

Don't know what this accusing look is for, he's the one that rolled in fox poo, I didn't want to spend my morning giving him a shower.

Been trying to get a software update for an ID3 since... 2021... but our nearest VW main dealer (Marshalls Reading) has so far been unable to do it. Just preparing to have another go and I've noticed their top rated review:

"Excellent at sales and poor at everything that comes after"

Amen brother.

A weekend corporate update seems to have increased the AI auto complete aggressiveness in my editor.

Can't press the tab key without it fucking everything up. And the "turn this shit off" hotkey has stopped working.

Reaching the "reprogramming with a very large axe" stage of AI induced rage.

"Daaad, can you fix things?"

"Well, I like to think I... Why what have you broken?"

Had to get the magnifying glasses out for the microscopic flat cables, and use the tri prong screw driver bit for the microscopic screws.

Anyway, it's back together now.

Ugh. Accidentally clicked on the Tidal version of an album. Once again reminded that, it was fine the first time, it doesn't need to be remastered by a deaf gibbon with half an hour's training on Sequoia.

Yrs, dangerously close to blaming the 'modern audience', a grumpy git.

Think my son has inherited his mother's northern genes.

He's currently on a school trip to see the workings of the EU political system, but is mostly complaining about the cost of caramel lattes.

Hmmm...

1998 ZX6R
1996 ZX7RR
1998 GSXR750 SRAD
2002 Aprillia RSV Mille
2006 GSXR750 K6

Properly, and actually owned rather than leased, I can get to 4 cars:

Some sort of SAAB Aero.
BMW 540i V8, extremely thirsty.
BMW 335D.
Chipped VW Scirocco 2.0 which ate oil and front tyres.
Introduce yourself with 5 cars you've owned (all the cars I've owned)

2002 Mercedes-Benz CLK320
2003 Mercedes-Benz CL500
2007 Mercedes-Benz CLS500
2006 Citroën C6 (2.7 hdi)
2022 BMW 840i (3.0)

Spot the moment I got fed up with cheap clunkers.
Introduce yourself with 5 cars you've owned

To Earth With Love - Gay Dad
I've got a 7pm submission deadline, so of course I'm messing around here until it's so time critical it actually just gets done (journalists are a weird bunch). So...

Name a band where their one good song is truly excellent but everything else they do is just, well, not.
