And honestly I don't give a fuck if it's popular or not. It's going to make a lot of kids' lives better. That's the point of government. Not an opinion poll.

Oh well. It's the Burberry shareholders I feel for really
Having carefully calculated that there is absolutely nothing in the budget, floated, mooted or recommended that isn't going to hit me (rightly, though less rightly for some options) I'd just like the love shared a bit so real money got raised and the country visibly got better as a result.

Don't know how to take videos off twitter so you'll have to cope with going there, but fucking hell this is absurdly violent. Perhaps...you don't have to stand with Palestine Action, actually

Look, it's a long article, but would it kill anyone to actually read it? Yes, it's written for an intelligent audience, but nevertheless, it's not exactly subtle in setting out all the ways he is a mad unpleasant crank.
Over many interviews, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. told Michael Scherer about how he plans to remake America’s public-health system. Can he lead the scientific establishment he’s spent much of his life crusading against?

The fact that in both 2019 and 2024, the winning party did so with a set of manifesto promises that could not be kept and dissolved upon contact with actual office is something that as an industry we should be much more bothered by than we are.

Disturbing moment. Opened Disney+ on my TV and it did the whole 'looks like not your household, put in code thing'. Not that weird, much more terrifying - in 'Continue watching' was...EPISODE 5 OF ALL'S FAIR.

From the FT's Polymath crossword, this is not just a clue, but Apple's only marketing of a show that, now I look it up, could have been designed to appeal to me if only I knew of it. And I've had Apple TV for two years

A luxury tax isn't going to save us either. Thread below ignores cars but I could mention too that Britain's car industry is not cheap cars.

I’m just back from Ukraine for the third time. As ever so struck and in awe of the bravery, resilience & sense of humour of the people I met. The rallying around to build new organisations and initiatives that save lives and rescue victims of war. The decision to make art, music - to find joy.

This is going to have even more really thoughtful and intelligent replies as time passes, I can tell
If I asked you which country has the most progressive tax system in the developed world — where high earners hand over an especially large share of their income relative to the average worker — what would your answer be?

The answer is in fact Britain. on.ft.com/4a5jIFc

Raising the personal allowance really was an amazing middle class giveaway disguised as concern about low wages.
Also, if we want to measure the economic consequences of Osborne, the period should end earlier than 24-25. A lot has happened since 2019 that isn't 'austerity' in the narrow sense.
