It was chewing ripe pears that had dropped from our trees, and its tongue kept poking out from its mouth as it moved them around and licked its lips. Great photo opportunity, as the pears kept it busy and my presence didn’t seem to bother it at all.

I’d never heard that name so I looked it up- looks like a coal tit is a similar but distinct bird (apparently it has a white stripe on the back of its head, chickadees don’t). We do have a very adorable bird here that is quite questionably named a “bushtit”, though!
