Emily Siner came to me a year ago with this idea: What if we take an in depth look at the Geier v. Tennessee case over TSU funding? A great idea, since the Tennessee legislature continues its involvement in the only public HBCU in the state. This is part one of four.
The Debt: What does Tennessee owe its only public historically Black university? Journalist Emily Siner writes about the legal case that changed higher education in the state, with continuing ramifications for Tennessee State University. Produced by @tennesseelookout.com & @wpln.bsky.social.

Charges against James Comey and Letitia James were thrown out by a federal judge today. “The basic safeguards of the criminal-justice system are proving to be some of the most effective checks on Trump’s power,” Randall D. Eliason argues:
Why the Comey Prosecution Is Falling Apart
In the criminal-justice system, when the president’s bluster collides with facts and evidence, he keeps losing.

I cannot agree with @rollinhorton.bsky.social more. Housing preservation is just as vital as new development, particularly for those most vulnerable to displacement.
Nashville’s homelessness problem is a housing problem - one of choice. Rising housing costs force our most vulnerable residents onto the streets
A Labor Day reminder: today there isn't a single city, metro area, or state in the U.S. where a full-time minimum-wage worker can afford a modest 2-bedroom apartment.

Millions of people with jobs—even multiple jobs—aren't safe from homelessness in this country.
