As part of @portlandmercury.com’s winter print issue, I made some holiday gift recommendations, including Werner Herzog’s “The Future of Truth”:

"It's more like an incessant striving." The book is Herzog's "uncertain journey" through this "post-truth era," collecting essays on the sore spots of our negotiable reality-fake news, Al anxiety, Japanese fam-ilies-for-hire, Elon Musk's limited imagination-and his primordial quest for "ecstatic truth," all with plenty of fascinating anecdotes and the warm, easy eloquence of a lifelong bullshitter.
