Compared to other cities Vienna still seems like a role model when it comes to affordable housing

@justinkadi.bsky.social & @sarahkumnig.bsky.social from @tuwien.at presented their study about investors' professional strategies to displace tenants from their homes. They found out that one third of the historic buildings in Vienna have changed their owners within the last 20 years.

@barbarasteenbergen, Head of International Union of Tenants (IUT) stated that the best protection of tenants are unlimited rental contracts. 📝

@annaclaudiarossbach , Executive Director of @unhabitat.bsky.social explained the effects of land use and the dynamics of housing markets. If we won't manage to regulate the market better than in the past, we won't meet out social needs when it comes to #housing. 🏘️

As affordable #Housing became one of the biggest social problems of our modern society, the topic was given special priority by appointing a specific Minister for housing in Austria, @andreasbabler.bsky.social and a Commissioner for housing at European level @danjoergensen

President of the chamber of labour @renateanderl.bsky.social @arbeiterkammer.at and @ilkimerdost.bsky.social, Head of Department of Education, Urban Affairs and Consumerism pointed out the urging political dimension of housing.

"Oder anders gesagt: Insgesamt wurden rund 400 Hektar Liegenschaftsfläche veräußert, das entspricht in etwa 570 Fußballfeldern!", so @thomasritt.bsky.social.
