Starting to feel festive 🎄🥰

All-in on the coffee theme this year. Crosby Coffee’s whole bean Advent calendar at the back and Rave’s coffee chocolate one at the front ☕️

If you're in Berlin today, I'm doing my first ever market with my glass - at #Weddingmarkt Christmas Market on Leopoldplatz - from 11:00 - 19:00!

(i'm... a lil terrified, but I did make a bunch of cute mini vases so....)

Every now and then I stumble across an underrated article.

An example: "Measuring Latencies Between AWS Availability Zones" (link below). An incredible resource for anyone building on AWS.

What are your favorite, lesser-known blogs?

Some days I wish I had a more interactive code review tool than GitHub's.

I'm looking over a PR for a pretty gnarly change in a C project and I want to write notes all over it that I reference later. I'm genuinely tempted to print the thing and go over it with a pen like a teacher.

Postgres uses TOAST to store large, variable-sized data values like JSONB and TEXT.

Using it impacts performance, so you gotta know the tradeoffs.

For anyone waiting for the video: my #SREcon talk is now up!

Lots of deep details in there about how hard it is to store data reliably and how tiny mistakes can turn into big problems.
How do Postgres and MySQL achieve data durability?

Our very own Chris Sinjakli spoke at SREcon about how this works and the many engineering challenges it presents.

Just realised we’ve reached the point in the year where I only want to listen to jazz. Something about the cold days and long nights puts my brain in that place 🍂

Today it’s the Dave Brubeck Quartet’s Last Time Out

PlanetScale Insights is amazing.

Correlating schema/config changes and performance has never been easier.

The perfect tool for squeezing every ounce of performance out of your database resources.

Turns out you can communicate across containers via 63-bits of available space in a shared lock you acquire on /proc/self/ns/time that all processes have access to.

No networking required. The post has a demo of a chat app communicating across unprivileged containers.
