I'm struggling to envision how this parry works. As a videogame mechanic it's pretty well defined as press button at the right time to nullify damage but when it comes to a magic system a parry could mean literally any defensive ability.

Energy manipulation kinda makes any kind of parry ability redundant. You could just redirect the energy of your opponents attack and not have to parry at all.
