100%. Everything I paint gets a matt coat as a finish. Including metallics. The only exceptions would be water effects, windows on vehicles and such; stuff that you really want to be reflective.

I am begging, pleading with people to accept that varnish is useful for more than as a protective layer. Every time someone asks or complains about 'washes drying shiny,' I point desperately at the last step of almost everything I do: matt varnish. It's the FINISH you want, not the armour.

WIP for nearly 30 years, I now completed this Dwarf Anvil of Doom.

Runesmith and the anvil are in their original ‘90s paint job, by much younger me. I wanted to leave them like that, adds to the charm! Guards and the forge are freshly painted.
