Masking discourse is on again and I’ll just say if you see people masking when few others are it’s likely because they’ve determined that for them, in that setting, the benefit of not catching (or spreading) whatever’s going around is worth the cost of masking. It’s rarely more complicated than that

Telling folks to just "plug in to community" rn is well-meaning and if you can do that, wonderful. But most people are not super connected to community for many reasons. So, if you don't have community rn that's ok, consider finding 2-5 ppl you can form a pod with.

People need to stop using masks as a political football. The reality is that climate change and pandemics are here to stay and increasing in threat. We need to help people protect themselves and their communities by raising awareness about best practices and distributing high quality masks for free.
