GOOD NEWS ALERT 🚨

Today the government relented to pressure from the @livingwageaotearoa.bsky.social and retained the requirement for contracted workers to be paid at least the Living Wage rate in Government Contracts. Around 5,000 workers will likely benefit from this decision

Parents who invest in their children get healthy, functioning adults. Governments and councils that invest in their citizens and the country get a healthy and functioning society. #nzpol brain fart from camp obvious.

Randomly say this on my timeline and figured I’d pass it on...

This dog is named Clio. She did not study and she does not know how to read. 😊

Luxon isn’t just bad and inept at his job, he’s cruel. And for the MPs etc working with him not speaking up… you’re tarred and feathered too.

SPEAKER JOHNSON: I don't know. I don't have time to follow every historical event.

Sociology is an important subject for nurses for example. a politician shouldn’t get to determine which subjects are worthy or not… that way authoritarianism lies.

Pritzker: "It's unconscionable. This has never happened before. They're calling out troops onto the streets of a state that doesn't want them and they're not even telling us where they're gonna go, what they're gonna do. This hasn't happened I don't think since the Civil War."

Luxon giving his 'best' advice to unemployed youth...

#NzPol #Caricature #Cartoon #PoliticalCartoon #EditorialCartoon #Luxon
Cartoon. Title: Youth 'Pep' talk...

A tiny Luxon is in the hall talking to young people. He's standing on a stool with his hand casually in his pocket lecturing a room of youth.

He's saying, "The world doesn't owe you a living! BUT... if you grow up to be a landlord..."

In the audience over 20 young people with varying expressions react to his speech. One in particular is looking at us with a distinct angry face.

I feel I benefited from Jacindas government, I’m in a high risk occupation and I’m alive due to her policies. I believe I managed to buy a house and my wages improved due to her policies. Child poverty was improving and efforts were made re Maori health authority etc plus Matariki etc

To be fair, I don’t think Jacindas government was too shitty to bear albeit they did squander opportunity. Most parties handling the pandemic were voted out around the globe.

So according to Nicola Willis people concerned about rising unemployment are “glass half empty” and people who have lost their jobs “shouldn’t take it personally”. Could she be any more out of touch?!

@chrishipkins.bsky.social needs to run on a campaign of hope. Not merely led by reactions… set the tone. Far right thinking is reaching our shores and we have to stand against that with a vision of hope.

This is very kind to hear -- thanks, Chris!

(It *does* feature a true story about a masturbating elk, so, uhhh. You know. Just in case you need that warning.)

(Which then makes it more fascinating the publisher decided to put an elk-like figure on the cover.)

I have been a video game writer for years now (fwiw) and have read nearly every well known book on the craft of fiction writing in any medium, even poetry and songwriting, so it's no small thing when I say that @chuckwendig.bsky.social 's book on storytelling is the best I've ever read so far.
The cover to Chuck Wendig's book, "Damn Fine Story - Mastering the Tools of a Powerful Narrative."
