I'm surprised you think so. It came across as bitchy and sneering with unnecessary personal attacks on both Reeves and Mahmoud. Half of speech was spent identifying problems and her 'solutions' were half-baked magic money tree 'cost-savings' to fund abolition of stamp duty.
sjkenyon.bsky.social
I suspect the reason voters aren't listening or 'hearing' is down to the politics of grievance being screeched at full volume ad infinitum and drowning out anything positive.

Be proud of YOU, Niall! Wonderful to see.

Only a beginning clearly but better than nothing.

They have started to do exactly that.

We are building the next generation of new towns to make the dream of home ownership a reality again.

This is not just about building new homes — but brand new communities with proper services.

What does that mean? Let me explain 👇🏻

I'm not an expert in tax stuff, but I'm slightly surprised "we're going to abolish stamp duty" wasn't followed by "...and replace the ~£11.6bn hit with [some other thing]"

Like Reeves is apparently considering:

Reeves considers replacing stamp duty with new property tax
Exclusive: Treasury examines options including tax on homes sold for more than £500,000 as well as overhaul of council tax

Stamp duty receipts approximately £13 billion per year. Where is she going to find a replacement for that?
sjkenyon.bsky.social
Stamp duty. £14 BN per year. How is she proposing to pay for that one?
sjkenyon.bsky.social
Stamp duty raises approximately £14 BN per annum. I don't like it any more than anyone else. But if Tories propose to scrap it, how do they propose to replace that revenue?

Is Kemi really hoping that people believe all she has pointed out to be wrong with the country is the fault of a 15 month old government and not the result of the 14 years she and most of her front bench were in power?

#FullFact real-time Government Tracker updated today.
It now shows Labour delivered (or are on track to deliver) 57 of 83 Election pledges.
This is an extraordinary achievement in just 15 months in power.
The Tories managed just 3 (one partially) in 5yrs

Kemi Badenoch says she will give a tax cut for private school fees and take away all the new workers rights brought in by Labour
sjkenyon.bsky.social
I agree. It's just coming across as bitchy, sneering and condescending. Not hearing anything positive. Admittedly I wouldn't vote for them ever, but the tone is awful.
sjkenyon.bsky.social
Just a bitchy, sniping little speech so far. No policy. Just sneering at individual Labour politicians.
sjkenyon.bsky.social
About twenty minutes in to Badenoch speech. So far, she hasn't made a single suggestion of policy to improve any of the doom and grimness she's talking about. Praising their 14 years in government as if the public has forgotten it. What a joke.

Michael Heseltine tells @europeanmovement.co.uk event that the Farage's Reform and European populist far right parties are “equivalents to the fascists of the thirties” and adds: ”We have to deal with President Trump for the next 3 years. We don't need his mouthpiece anywhere near No.10.” ~AA 🔥

Robert Peston
@Peston
Heseltine has just addressed a packed meeting of the European Movement at Tory conference. He does not show the restraint of most party leaders in his critique of Farage and Reform: “right wing equivalents to the fascists of the thirties are back on the march: Le Pen in France, AfD in Germany, Fdl in Italy, Vox in Spain and conspicuously Reform in this country. Much of President Trump's language in America coincides with words here in Europe. The immigrant has replaced the Jew as the problem which needs a solution although recent events here have cast a dark shadow…We must make clear that we will never have any part in the populist extremism of Nigel Farage. We have to deal with President Trump for the next 3 years. we don't need his mouthpiece anywhere near Number 10.”
