Helloooo!

If you are following me and wondering why I'm not terribly active, feel free to also follow @sarajw.front-end.social.ap.brid.gy

That's my rather more active Mastodon account. I still post a bit here and reply too, I just don't always crosspost everything.

Happy weekend!

On my way to @webdevconf.com!

My luggage: A small red pull-along case plus a pirateship.com tote placed atop it, standing on an oak-leaf strewn pavement while waiting for a bus.

It is! I've been wanting just to do silly stuff for ages, but when I get the time I never have any ideas, so the prompts are helping so much

Lolol best of luck

...but to be honest it's not always clear. Sometimes a vid just give me the ick. And I tell the kids so, and we stop watching that one and choose something else.

I *hope* somehow I'm teaching them what's not real, what's uncanny, and what to do when something makes us feel weird (browse awaaay!).
sjoy.lol
I bet they were.

Ugh AI videos are just so ubiquitous already - I regularly sit with my kids and let them watch a few minutes of youtube, often shorts, with me. They get to pick.

Some of the videos, yeah, no. I talk to them about how something is weird and probably not real, and why I think that.

Sora is a stunning technical achievement, but 2 choices were poorly thought out:

1. Letting people create & share copyright violations like Pikachu vs. Sonic fistfights is a DMCA minefield.

2. Allowing users to deepfake others into crimes or slurs is an abuse disaster waiting to happen.

Sticker update!!

Alt text with help from @altbot.fuzzies.wtf.ap.brid.gy on Mastodon - with a bunch of corrections :)
A densely packed collage of colorful stickers, affixed to a dark laptop. The stickers feature a variety of themes, primarily related to web development, coding, and internet culture, with some whimsical and abstract designs mixed in.

There's a dominant color palette of pink, purple, blue, and white. Key stickers include those with text, such as “ANTI JAVASCRIPT CLUB,” “CSS IS AWESOME,” “TAKE HYPERTEXT TO HYPERSPACE,” “WEB PLATFORM,” “NO DEPLOYS ON FRIDAYS,” “HARD WORK PAYS OFF,” and “No link shaming.” Several stickers display cartoon-like elements, like ice cream cones, stars, and quirky characters, alongside symbols like atoms and code brackets.

Here's a detailed list of the stickers present:

"Nevertheless She Coded"
A skeleton dino saying "Roar"
"I ANXIETY JS"

The one shared above was already the one I was looking for - but the more the merrier :)
sjoy.lol
UPDATE - "Ooh!" now added 😆
sjoy.lol
OK interesting!

Maybe I can make them play on hover /or/ click somehow, then once someone gets curious enough to click one, the rest will be off to the races on hover...

Day 6, solids: sarajoy.neocities.org/weirdwebocto...

I would quite like a little 'ooh' sound to play on hover (you will be able to see why!) - but I gather this isn't simply doable without getting the user to click somewhere first?

Has anyone got a good example I can look at?

That must have been it! It looks familiar - I was obviously way out on the date 😅 I guess it was shared by someone in the last year.

Thank you!!

Hey @jamieandlion.bsky.social - I'm fairly sure that you have a talk that I keep meaning to watch or listen to, and I've lost it!

I tried your website and scrolling down your feed here, but I'm not having much like.

I feel like you gave it in 2024, maybe? About accessibility and neurodiversity?

I'm going to make an effort to post a new CodePen every day through October.

I haven't been doing nearly enough creative coding as of late, so it'll be nice to have an outlet.
