Congrats to Lisa Murkowski on voting for a bill that she herself admitted was not ready in hopes that the House would change it. Now it’ll become law. She had the power to stop it, and instead chose to become complicit. That’s her legacy.

No, Sen. Murkowski, House Republicans were not going to save you from your biggest mistake voting for that bill.

No, Americans, Congress will not save us from a tyrannical regime that’s abandoned democracy, the rule of law & human decency.

It’s going to take mass protest & collective power.

I had this exact same thought earlier tonight.

There are still plenty of great people there but it really is remarkable how much it’s changed for the worse in just a decade
being published in the new york times was a pivotal moment in my early career, and way back then it felt like the ultimate elite validation

just astounding where that institution has ended up
so the NY Times laundered a nothingburger for an anonymous racist who was trying to trade on the story... absolute scenes

Today proves that Republicans were serious about one promise: to cut taxes for the wealthy. All the rest was bullshit.

So, shitty day!

I’m pissed, but mostly I’m just sad for the millions of people who will suffer because of what Republicans did today.

Many, if not most, are Trump voters. And most probably have no idea what this law will actually mean for them.

Just for those who may be a little confused: Hakeem Jeffries protesting Trump’s brutal bill by delivering the longest House floor speech in U.S. history isn’t performative. Wearing an overnight maxi pad on your ear after an alleged “assassination attempt” is performative.

As Shawn McCreesh and Tyler Pager report, House Republican holdouts were apparently swayed to support President Trump’s tax and spending bill by signed merch and photographs with the president.

Happy birthday, America. Your gift? A new police state.
With this vote, Congress makes ICE the highest-funded federal law enforcement agency in history, with more money per year at its disposal over the next four years than the budgets of the FBI, DEA, ATF, US Marshals, and Bureau of Prisons combined.
🚨🚨 NEW: House passes sprawling domestic policy bill, sending it to Trump's desk

Final House vote is 218-214, with TWO Rs voting no (Massie & Fitzpatrick).

Senate passed it 51-50.

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

At a time when inequalities of income and wealth in America are wider than they have been in more than 80 years, Trump's big ugly bill is utterly shameful.

It’s now up to us to make sure Republicans pay the price at the ballot box.

Millions and millions of people are about to no longer have access to healthcare.
