I don't run AD&D 2e really, but my ruling would probably be to give it a hefty -8 penalty, maybe lower it to a -6 if they take their time to aim, but given the distance I might bump it back up to a -7 penalty.
However, the target would have had a -4 to their AC and no Dex modifier due to surprise.

Fleeing is a viable tactic.
Forbidden Lands has interesting rules for fleeing combat, but I feel like it's a bit *too* reliable, and might make players take on fights they shouldn't because they can just run away.
Still, having rules for fleeing that aren't dogshit goes a long way to prevent TPKs.

I like going in dungeon and fighting two packs of enemies, then fight two packs of enemies, and then fight the mario party minigame boss.
