The thing that has surprised me the most about the 8 folders is that I haven't heard any of them make a moral argument for ending the shutdown. They could say they couldn't bear to see so many suffer without food in November, and to explicitly point out that Trump clearly doesn't care.

Just listened to an interview on NPR with John Fetterman, who is promoting his book, and didn't expect to hear just how really bad his politics are.

It's crazy to me this is often ignored around questions of why people aren't having kids. This was a huge factor for me, at least. It'd be great to see more analysis of this. For me, the real concern isn't just climate change but the apparent inability our unwillingness to address it.
Anxiety over global warming is leading some young Americans to say they don't want children
Younger generations of Americans are increasingly citing climate change as making them reticent to have children.

Southpark has done it again. Wow, depicting Trump as an incontinent orange man flying around in a jet and shitting all over the country. It's a little too on the nose, maybe?

What a crazy surprise! Who could've seen this coming?
Trump no longer distancing himself from Project 2025 as he uses shutdown to further pursue its goals
President Donald Trump is now openly embracing the conservative blueprint he desperately tried to distance himself from during the 2024 campaign.

I know there's worse stuff going on, but why do companies keep adding stevia to products? I used to love the Liquid Death teas, then they added stevia. I used to get carnation instant breakfast for my kid, but now they're adding stevia. I'd rather something just not be as sweet.

I guess I'm just confused about... what are we supposed to be proud about?
National pride is declining in America. And it's splitting by party lines, new Gallup polling shows
A poll shows only 36% of Democrats say they’re “extremely” or “very” proud to be American, reflecting a dramatic decline in national pride that's also clear among young people.

The FDA barred it from shipping drugs to the U.S. — then excused more than 20 drugs from the ban, despite risks to consumers.

A ProPublica investigation found that for more than a decade, the FDA gave substandard factories banned from the United States a special pass to keep sending drugs to an unsuspecting public.

Rewatched Robocop 1987 for the first time since it came out. I had picked up on the strong satirical elements as a 7 year old. One thing I originally got wrong: James Woods was not the actor to play Robocop.

That means companies like Real Page can use AI to get around price fixing laws and RAISE YOUR RENT.

BUT this policy violates the Senate's budget rules.

This was in the mail way back in January when the cuts started, but I'm glad AP is covering it to hopefully make more folks aware. For health researchers, Covid-19 highlighted major gaps in public health to address. But this is taking us back even further.
Deep cuts erode the foundations of US public health system, end progress, threaten worse to come
Americans are losing an array of people and programs dedicated to keeping them healthy.

TLDR: Celgene, the company that owns the rights to revlimid, are a bunch of greedy fucks. This isn't about them recouping the costs of development, as it was already discovered. They just knew people dying of cancer would pay that much to not die.
