The Pima County Sheriff's Department is leading the investigation at the request of the FBI, which is also assisting. The FBI did not immediately respond to a request for comment. It's standard practice to involve the PCSD in an investigation when a federal agent is involved in a shooting incident within Pima County, the PCSD said. "We ask the community to remain patient and understanding as this investigation moves forward," the PCSD said in a statement Tuesday. "PCSD will thoroughly examine all aspects of the incident, however, these investigations are complex and require time."

Cook County criminal defense attorneys may want to save this
Police said prosecutors “reviewed the case and declined to file felony charges, advising it was more appropriately charged as a misdemeanor.” The state’s attorney’s office said the police department directly filed the charges after prosecutors recommended the misdemeanor charge following its review. Held said police initially told him the case was being investigated as a felony because he was over the age of 60 and it occurred on a public sidewalk. He was later told prosecutors typically only charge felony battery in conjunction with another crime.

Beck had the good sense to say no. But Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson soon chimed in, basically asking why Hawaii’s reference to the Louisiana law should reflect poorly on Hawaii’s prohibition rather than the Court’s precedent. “To the extent that we have a test that relates to historical regulation, but all of the history of regulation is not taken into account, I think there might be something wrong with the test,” she said. Jackson went on to argue that there exists an important distinction between acknowledging that the country has “moved away from that history” and pretending that “that history didn’t exist.”

A secret commitment to the Constitution, or not
Once I began the application, I reached the “merit hiring questions,” which are optional sub-200-word narrative questions that highlight an applicant’s character. The first question read: “How has your commitment to the Constitution and the founding principles of the United States inspired you to pursue this role within the Federal government? Provide a concrete example from professional, academic, or personal experience.” In each response field, the recruiter instructed me to paste the words, “I’d prefer not to answer.” From this point on, I mostly only touched the computer to type what was dictated to me into text fields. The recruiter, reaching over my shoulder, filled out the application on my behalf, answering some questions faster than I could read them without asking me for input.

It's not "satire" or "resistance" when it's misleading bias.
