I passed by Funston Elementary in Logan Square, across the street from where people were tear gassed last week. And every corner around the school has an adult keeping watch for dismissal time. 🥹 Times feel bleak but also always reminders all the things people do to help.

Was just at a neighborhood school at dismissal. Hundreds of people with whistles surrounding the school and stationed down every block making sure ICE doesn’t snatch anyone. The same is happening at all the schools around here. I love my neighborhood and I love Chicago.

Just got this text from my daughter’s school.

On the one hand, his for her school.

On the other, fuck ICE.
LANETHS-Safety is number one priority; we were notified there may be ICE activity in the area. If students would like to remain in the building to wait for safe ride or bus, they are welcome.

Adults will be near the bus stops in case there is a need for support.

Txt STOP to cancel

Well, as always, it's not this baby's fault humans can be SO annoying

Did they say what they will do in response?
slkollmann.bsky.social
They both were at the facility together and did a press conference. IDK what it said re: access
slkollmann.bsky.social
"information about some of this info" 🙄
slkollmann.bsky.social
But all of those have been members of the House of Representatives, as far as I know.

This is two sitting US Senators who want to access a federal lockup in their jurisdiction. I certainly hope they demanded to and am very curious about what happened next.

Attorneys have had information about some of this info over the course of years of representing people when its use was much different than it is now.

But conditions have changed, significantly. And to my knowledge, members of Congress who have attempted to access the building have been rebuffed.

What is the staffing situation? How many workers per person detained? Which languages are they required to speak? What translation services do they use? What notices are posted for people regarding who to contact to report abuse? How many phones per detainee? What is the policy on calling attorneys?
slkollmann.bsky.social
What is the food situation? Who prepares it and where? How are they licensed? Who serves it? How do people access water? Brush teeth? Laundry? How many toilets? How are they accessed? Can people wash their hands before eating? We know they can't shower. What medical supplies and staff are on site?

Wait: did the Senators from IL attempt to access the Broadview facility to assess conditions today? What happened?

Took a break from the Supreme Court's ongoing horrorshow to focus on what really matters: how funny it is for a federal judge to decide, as a matter of law, that Drake lost the Kendrick Lamar beef
Federal Judge Declares Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” Too Awesome to Be Defamatory
Apparently, Drake decided that losing in the court of public opinion was not humiliating enough.

is it not weird that every day there’s a new video of anonymous masked men having the time of their lives beating/shooting/disappearing people and the dem response from the top down is “republicans want to double your health insurance premiums”

Based on all the social media reports, today may have been the busiest Friday for ICE activity that we’ve seen since this surge started.

With hundreds of police now protecting ICE’s facility for them, presumably ICE is able to deploy more agents to snatch people.

Terry stops were a mistake, and Kavenaugh stops only moreso.

Wow. Greg Bovino admits on camera that his agents can detain people if you look scared, change your demeanor, or grip a steering wheel too tight.

As his unmasked agents walk around with large guns to scare you, they may arrest you just for that — even if you're a U.S. citizen.

Federal judge: you will not stop reporters from being close enough to report

Sheriff Dart: Those rules are only for the feds. The only reporters WE recognize are the ones who sell our dog/pizza/chess stories
slkollmann.bsky.social
Not sure why Tom Dart is enforcing Broadview's arguably unconstitutional executive order but he and the State's Attorney are making some interesting choices these days regarding both immigration and protest of federal abuse

earlier this morning, cook county sheriff’s deputies kicked me and a couple other reporters who were standing by ourselves off a public sidewalk because it wasn’t “free speech” hours yet or something idk.

ICE went after rideshare drivers at O’Hare today, according to statement from Illinois Drivers Alliance

Hope this patient publishes their full ambulance and hospital bills due to this Kavanaugh stop.

So this IL Hospital Association memo describes an incident where ICE detained a US citizen, gave them HEART PROBLEMS, took them to a hospital where the fought with medical personnel, then left when they realized they detained a CITIZEN.
