My 2 cents: The second one looks better with softer lighting and more volume but I like the deepness of the blacks in the first one.
As a noir aesthetic, I feel the second one might benefit from deeper contrasts and deeper blacks.

I totally do, always have even for small flash games I made ages ago. It kind of gives an authentic feel to the game.

From Super Ordinary Joe, a short training themed upgrade game:
Not a bug but I had a hole in my UI that begged for an extra option so I added the "video game" upgrade. However, it's a little joke on the player since "playing video games" actually loses you one random stat point.
