I'm never being racist because I'm not basing arguments on a pseudoscientific hierarchy of races based on genetic value judgments.

I'm being culturist because I AM basing arguments on a fair assessment of superior and inferior cultures/mores based on the idea that there is an objective standard.
search for the words "accept brexit" on bluesky and almost nobody is complaining that people won't accept it and move on. but there are plenty of people who regularly state their intent to never accept it for their entire lives. they won't stop blaming it for every problem.

A lot of the far right in the US doesn't see the point in defending Europe from Russia if Europe won't even defend itself from Islam long-term, and that means mass deportation will be the agenda they demand from Europe's anti-Islam parties. Why? Because Islam's image in the US is THAT BAD.

on the promise of taking the US back to 1955, America elected Biff Tannen president, so it's now on the path to the hellscape that is 1985-A

Democrats can't rely on there being a fair election in 2028, or even on winning it if there is a fair one. They can't rely purely on Republicans being very unpopular, and just wait for "the pendulum" to swing back to them when they don't deserve it.

Trump is trying to invade about 6 countries with all the haste and celerity of a man who was just secretly diagnosed with a terminal disease.

A heck of a chart: in every single one of the 10 major US cities that built the most housing between 2017 and 2023, rents for older, existing units fell—often by quite a bit.

Trump has decided that, yeah, inflation is still a bit high, so he's decided to wag 7 dogs at once as a distraction.

Trump has never felt constrained to pay his personal creditors, especially the powerless ones. So he's not going to see why his new toy should pay its own debts, if the money is not going to someone who has recently wined and dined him

America is also losing jobs in the homebuilding sector as the number of units under construction rapidly drops, leading to a massive slowdown in overall construction employment growth.

The US has added only 52k construction jobs over the last year compared to 191k the year prior.

I don't accept that Russia, given Trump's massive encouragement to start invading a 1000-mile wide front, isn't going to present Nato with a load of miltary targets onto which we can pour tens of billions of euros of ordnance. The idea that Putin will be subtle is silly.

Modern "interventions" cost a lot and don't deliver "clear victories" because given that CNN is always watching, the US isn't willing to kill as many as it takes, so there can never be a clear, Hollywood-style happy ending. Given these constraints, the US has given up doing any policing.

Trump could announce negative USD rates tomorrow, and while that would certainly cause the dollar to crash and make imports to the US much more expensive, it STILL wouldn't cause a manufacturing and export boo. That's because of product quality vs Asia and Europe, as well as boycotts of US goods.
January 6, 2026 at 2:28 AM
Trump is going to burn down US society, the Constitution and probably the economy. Whenever he and his ilk are removed, the US will be in the position of France in 1945, and will have to start a new republic from scratch. New name, new symbols, new flag.

Ukraine can be fasttracked into the EU but the territories in southeast Ukraine will be hard to recover, and most of the people there don't want to be in anything as cosmopolitan as the EU, moreso even than the people in Clacton or Boston.

I don't doubt Trump has had at least 3 CIA briefings that explain how hard it is to invade Taiwan. Presumably he has naively taken that to mean it won't happen. It's a gamble with VERY high stakes for the world.
January 5, 2026 at 11:34 PM
If Trump thinks allowing Taiwan to be destroyed will have no effect on US tech companies and consumers then he really is out to lunch. Taiwan will destroy itself rather than be conquered.

there is a huge disconnect between the US and Europe because apart from English, there is no common USEFUL language.
Europeans know that the langs you need are Polish, French and German.
Americans think the langs useful for the world are Spanish. Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, Russian.
