Oligarchy (noun):

A government of and by a few at the top, who exercise power for their own benefit. Their power and wealth increase as they make laws that favor themselves, manipulate financial markets, and create monopolies that put more wealth into their pockets.

The oil industry buys off Congress. No action on climate.

The NRA buys off Congress. No action on guns.

Insurance companies buy off Congress. No action on health care.

The list goes on and on.

Money in politics is the root of our dysfunction.

The United States is the richest country in the history of the world. But who benefits from those riches?

Consider: the richest 10% of Americans hold nearly 70% of the nation’s wealth – while the bottom 50% hold just 3%.

See the problem?

"On October 8, 1931, a law went into effect requiring every Italian university professor to sign an oath pledging their loyalty to the government of Benito Mussolini. Out of over 1,200 professors in the country, only 12 refused. All of them were immediately fired." www.chronicle.com/article/what...

In 1931, Italian scholars were made to take loyalty oaths. Will that happen to us?

“I got DOGEd” will go down in American history. Perhaps the most ignominious in the country’s near 250-years.

This study is important because although effects were small, they were independent of depression and there was a dose effect. It showed increased risk of cognitive decline, death and fractures associated with antidepressant use in people with dementia bmcmedicine.biomedcentral.com/articles/10....

This flew under the radar, but Trump revoked a minimum wage hike for companies that contract with the government.

An estimated 390,000 workers will now see significant pay cuts.

It's not surprising that Trump's populism is fake, but it's hardly ever been more clear.

Having already spent over $7M backing the right-wing candidate in Wisconsin's Supreme Court election, Elon Musk's Super PAC is now offering Wisconsin voters $100 each to sign its petition against "activist judges."

This is what a broken campaign finance system looks like.

We reported on this a few days ago, but I want to point out this headline because this is where we are at.

A bill in Arkansas would ban gender affirming HAIRCUTS for transgender youth.

HAIRCUTS.

This is a straight up North Korea state sanctioned hairstyle proposed law for youth.
GOP bill could ban hairdressers from giving gender-nonconforming haircuts to minors - LGBTQ Nation
The bill would allow anyone to sue someone who affirms a young person's transition, and it specifically mentions hairstyles.

Wow shocking data @bmj.com:

“In 2023, 302 black candidates applied to anaesthetics, with only five offers made, meaning only 1.66% of applicants were successful. For white candidates, 47% of applications were successful.”

When I got Long Covid, I was 38 and healthy. If you are anything like I was then, it is hard to understand how bad Long Covid is. I think that we all have an instinct to just… look away. But, please, it is important that you look. #LongCovidAwarenessDay
The image shows a person standing in what appears to be a modern convenience store or small market. They're wearing a light blue button-up shirt and yellow pants, with sunglasses tucked into their shirt collar.
They're positioned next to a candy display section clearly labeled "CANDY" with various confectionery items on shelves. The wall behind them has white subway tiles with orange text that reads something about "NO CHECKOUT" and "WALK OUT SHOPPING," suggesting this might be an automated store where customers can take items and leave without traditional checkout.
