Anyone who wants to get a publishing deal today would probably want to start off making TikToks. I don't think that'd detract from their ability to write a good novel anymore than Pynchon's failed librettos detracted from his later work.

then your kids would grow up to put you in an old folks home where you can see the hardware store from the window

and you would see your grandchildren looking bored at the hardware store as you finish one last turn around the sun and you'd smile your little smile

then you grow up and have kids of your own and they'd be like "ooh i wanna try the DNA climber when are they gonna finish it"

and you'd just smile your little smile knowing the real DNA is the family we made along the way
