Kinda find this worse tbh cause the painted verso makes it clear that they're not the same people, so these are living beings. Maelle just replacing them with facsimiles of who they were feels weird to me :/

I see what you're saying and I get why you gravitate toward Maelle, but ultimately it's clear that Verso's ending is just the "correct" one. Maelle's ending has so many problems beyond her just staying in the canvas.

Yeah a Canvas Denizens ending would have been excellent as a third option. Super meaningful too. The canvas characters have zero say in the ending legitimately sucks, especially because we now know there is a way to "control" the canvas.

I like the multiple endings because they give insight to the character motivations. I didn't like how they both left out the rest of the party's desires.
Would have been nice to have a "Canvas Denizens" ending in addition to "Maelle" and "Verso." Simple to make it thematically appropriate too.

Yeah I think that bothers me a lot. Maelle's ending didn't need to be super happy but it's obvious the devs don't intend for that to be the TRUE ending even though it SHOULD be. All they had to do was let her respect Verso's wishes.

I disagree. I think Verso's ending VERY ADEQUATELY touches upon both opposing forces and views. That's why I say a canon ending would have worked great.

It's also just thematically weird because to my knowledge, there aren't any other moments in the game where you have any kind of narrative control. Correct me if I'm wrong here (I watched buck play it rather than me playing it).

Yeah there's definitely ways they could make a happy ending work. Which, again, if they didn't want a happy ending, that's totally fine, but giving the choice between a tragic ending and a shittier ending is nonsense. The game would have been better served with a single canon ending.

Y'all keep commenting that it's a tragedy and that's fine, but my main issue is that giving us a choice for an ending feels like a bad addition. Stick to your guns as a writer and give it a canon ending like Final Fantasy X.
