Australians have a lot to be proud of, including our Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS). The US drug companies want to water it down, and we need our elected leaders to be brave in defending it. In an increasingly dangerous world, we will need leaders to be braver than they have been for decades

The White House says tariffs on Russia (and presumably these others) are unnecessary because we don't trade with them on account of trade embargoes. 3 points:

1) Not true (see below)
2) Iran and Syria are heavily embargoed, but still got tariffs
3) Trump put tariffs on several uninhabited islands

List of countries not subjected to tariffs:

Russia
Belarus
North Korea
Cuba

They apparently took the time to impose tariffs on several uninhabited islands, so the omissions are extra noteworthy. If you spot others please flag!

No one I've talked to or have heard on TV today, could explain how Donald Trump came up with today's tariff numbers.

I checked the other platform and renowned business writer James Surowiecki offered this. It makes sense as an explanation less so for economic policy #Trump #Tariffs

Trump promised our PM that he would consider an exemption for Australia on steel and aluminium tariffs but he just announced live absolutely no exceptions. Why are we doing this stupid expensive #aukus deal. We just paid them 800 MILLION dollars. #auspol @albomp.bsky.social

NEW: Is the NHS still good value for money?

Billions of pounds are being ploughed into Britain’s health service — with little noticeable improvement in health since 2019.

Critics say the NHS has become bloated and inefficient. Is it?

Why do learners have to do different total hours driving experience before getting their driver's licence? Vic and NSW 120, WA 50, SA 75, Tas 80, Qld 100, NT ZERO! What is the evidence about the optimal hours? 120 hours is a lot of carbon and $ and hours for parents if the benefit is unproven.

Four different children have abduction attempts from a man in a white van in Melbourne in the last month and it's being reported that Police say they are 'not linked'. Seems... unlikely? Could we not say "we don't yet have evidence they are linked"? www.abc.net.au/news/2024-12...
