The Central Error of the Pandemic…

Is that of running pandemic management by laissez-faire socioeconomic principles.

If you grasp this, all the other errors fall into place as the inevitable consequence of following that line of thought. 🧵 1/x

One of the things that fertilises the soil is thrombosis. Tissue factor is an angiogenic factor that metastasising tumour cell probably use as a means of sticking to a tissue bed and laying down vascular roots #TeamClots

Is dark chocolate good for you?
"Sadly for chocoholics, the health claims for dark chocolate come from wishful thinking and sly marketing, not the findings of science."

More a comment than a correction. If you go from an FF of 3 on a surgical up to 50-100 on an N95 it's more like one order of magnitude
toshiakima.bsky.social
The average fit factor FF for a surgical mask is 3. Many score 300 on an Aura N95. Which makes it two orders of magnitude better. Yes this is predictive of real world outcomes

Source: pmc19.com/data/
The image is a COVID-19 heat map of the U.S. dated October 6, 2025, titled “1 in 81 Estimated Actively Infectious.” It’s based on CDC and Biobot wastewater data, showing most states in grey labeled “CDC Blackout,” indicating missing data during a federal “shutdown.”

At the bottom, it notes:
“PMC estimates 602,000 new daily infections amid ‘shutdown’ & state-level data blackout.”

Color legend (bottom left): Very High (dark red) → High → Moderate → Low → Very Low → No Data.
Most of the country is shown as having no current data available. The image shows a Pandemic Mitigation Collaborative (PMC) report titled “National COVID-19 Estimates (U.S.)” dated October 6, 2025.

🦠 Infections

Proportion Actively Infectious: 1 in 81 (1.2%)

New Daily Infections: 602,000

Infections in the Past Week: 4,540,000

Infections in 2025 (to date): 189,000,000

Cumulative Infections per Person: 4.69

🧠 Long COVID

From new daily infections: 30,000–120,000 new Long COVID cases

From new weekly infections: 227,000–910,000

⚰️ Excess Deaths

From new daily infections: 170–280 deaths

From new weekly infections: 1,300–2,100 deaths

The note at the bottom states that daily infections (602,000) are about half of the September 6 peak (1.24 million), yet post-acute effects and excess deaths remain high despite the decline.
