the variation i do by moving the picker ever so slightly on the hue/saturation scale, then i just mess around with placement lol, tho usually i have more rendering in areas of focus :)

and mm i usually have two primary colours in mind that contrast well with each other, determine what mood i want then branch out to colours surrounding those two (in smaller amounts) from there! +
