There's lots that supports this, beyond the general thead that Empires break things and kill people without much regard for smaller entities..
this is basically ricks' argument in THE GENERALS: that the structure of the american military (and political leadership) has generated an enormously competent professional force... that consistently generates useless results because of a void of strategic thinking at the top

This matches my understanding of the situation.
The #Pentagon has produced a classified, multiyear assessment (the "Overmatch Brief") showing how a conflict with #China over #Taiwan would play out.
In short, China would wipe the floor: "every trick we had up our sleeve, the Chinese had redundancy after redundancy".
