I’m excited to start over with social media on Bluesky. Not in it for the follows, likes, or impact. Just hope to have a place for ideas, good or bad, to exist outside my notes app.

Opinions are worthwhile, and I generally enjoy hearing ones that differ from mine with one key point: You have to make it known respectfully. Discourse improves our understanding and forces us to examine our own beliefs. But it must be mutual. And don’t be a dick about it.

The National Park Service fired many of its park rangers as part of a reduction in the federal work force. Some rangers decided it was worth the risk to speak out online about the cuts and share their love of the Park Service.

I’ve always loved flying at night. When I first started at the airlines most of my trips were evening flights. I bought a star chart and started learning the constellations above me.

Can you see the Big Dipper here?

Direct to consumer sales is a muuuuch better experience for car purchases, and aligns with today’s society in providing one price, click here to buy convenience.
South Carolina lawmakers are considering a bill to allow direct EV sales. If it passes, companies like Rivian and Scout could sell directly to consumers instead of going through dealerships. Governor McMaster has signaled his support.

TIL a new term: ‘cognitive offloading’, the idea of using lists, phones, etc to lessen the demands on your brain.

I do this all the time - I basically let google be my memory! But is this damaging my *actual* memory?

Oh… oh no.

There is a reason that aviation is slow to adopt change.

Aviation appears deceptively simple, and is the most unforgiving, except for perhaps crewed space flight.
Move fast and break things is not the motto you want to adopt at a regulatory system that, as challenged as it may seem at times, is extremely functional.

I have yet to hear a single person say that going to a dealership was a good experience. The last time I bought a car at one I caught the salesman *three* different times trying to get my wife to sign a credit check form.

Dealers: adapt or die.

Direct, one-price sales are desirable.

If you have an internet connection, especially on a smartphone, there is no good reason to remain uneducated on any topic you encounter. Stop celebrating how much you don’t know something. Don’t fall into the trap of believing you don’t need to know something.

Knowledge is power. Use it.

I make a point of not unilaterally judging someone based on political alignment, but I also detest most conversations on politics simply because frequently those involved are unwilling to listen, they only want to speak. That said, I can’t see how bills to change monuments and airport names do good.

The DCA crash really hits home for myself and many of those I know in aviation, and a universal theme is we greatly lament it turning into a political stage. Regardless of who you like, vote for, or what you believe, this is a conversation about safety, policy, and procedures. Expand your EQ.

It’s uncanny how many times people have read me chatGPT responses to questions they had previously posed to me and how similar the responses have been. Sometimes down to the same sentence.

The controllers at DCA are some of the best in the nation. It’s a long road to become a controller. Longer still to work a terminal environment. Longer still to work a class Bravo, tower, and then to work inside the SFRA. To imply anything else only demonstrates your own lack of intelligence.

I am a professional pilot, with past experience flying for regional airlines. I’ve known many good people who flew CRJ 700s at PSA. My opinion is one of many, founded on very little information, and should not be considered expert, though it is experienced. This is a tragedy, one we will learn from
