Hi all. I'm Zia, former digital illustrator turned oil painter. Heavy inspirations from sci-fi, fantasy, and gaming.
Hope to one day have my art on trading cards.

Open for work!

So this painting has been sitting on my wall for ages, as I've tried to decide if I wanted to pick it up or just toss it. And tonight I figured... what the hell, let me do the grisaille.

I'm glad I did. I can't wait to put color to it! I think it was just waiting for me.

So... 14 months ago I started oil painting. Tonight, I attended the reception for a gallery show featuring one of my paintings.
I... what? How? I'm genuinely proud of myself but also I'm still riding a wave of disbelief and surrealism (the emotion, not the art style, or maybe?) #oilpainting #gallery

It is so wild to me that after years of trying, I have successfully managed to find a stream and momentum as an artist. Especially wild that it's in oil painting, a medium I always revered and never expected to be GOOD at.

I'm an artist y'all! A bonefide ARTIST!

Another timelapse. Trying to challenge myself to learn how to paint on gessoboard. It... is an experience. #oilpainting #painting #books

Moving forward means leaving some things behind. Today I cleared out some old pieces from my portfolio, and updated it with new ones! Growth!

And behold! Flying Books. For those who've followed me long enough, you may recognize this as art that I originally did as a digital piece years ago. And here it is, traditionally rendered, and I think better for it!

One of the weird things about showing up every day to do art is that I'm getting better at doing art without the spark. Which, like, I realise is the aim but it's kind of wild that it's happening.

Did a painting timelapse of my Mango. I've got others recorded as well. I'm probably entering my era of a regular release schedule!

Not art related, but look at how absolute fangirl I looked today!

Alright everyone. Today is the day I finally commit to becoming a full time game artist. Ultimate goal is Magic the Gathering and I want to steep myself in board and card game culture all around.

So as it is, I am fully opening myself for professional work!

It cannot be made clearer.

If you continue to support the Harry Potter franchise in any way, you are directly funding the removal of trans people's human rights in the UK.

Another finished painting. I am actually kinda proud of this one, esp. for my first finished painting to feature a figure.

This shit is bullshit. I am allowed to look at whatever I like wherever.
And this server is just an art server with profane language.

What inspired you to paint this piece?

A deadline.
October 4, 2025 at 1:35 PM
Got a couple pieces transferred over to canvas for painting, including a portrait on my first ever self-stretched canvas.
I'm currently playing between moving permanently to Linen Canvas or gessoboard... it's a tossup.

General technique test for my big painting. I ... well the technique works but I also semi-rushed through this painting. I plan to take a lot more time with the proper painting when I do it. Then again, practice is practice.

Sharing a piece of work in progress/ prelim art. This is a sketch of a new painting I'll be working on, and I was just so proud of how it came out looking. The idea is a bit of fantasy mixed into a bit of darkness. idk what it'll be called in the end but for now I call it 'Beacon'.

The better part of valor is knowing when to stop. I miessed up mixing hair colors, so Im going to let this piece sit, come back in a couple weeks, and work on it again when I know Im ready.

Six months ago (Left) I started my first oil portrait, and I was extremely dissatisfied with the results at the time. I knew my forms were good, but I hadn't quite had a handle on skintones.
Six months later, I think I have ENOUGH a handle to try and work on it again. And... it's coming out well!

Never give up. I’ll stop drawing when I’m DEAD.
I've seen some reactions from struggling artists along the lines of 'I give up' and I feel your pain—but please do not.

Most people don't want to live in a world where artists are automated away, art production is captured by AI firms. Most people hate this idea.

Organize. Build solidarity. Fight.
Freelance illustration gigs drying up. Ad agencies using Midjourney instead of hiring human artists. Costume design turned over to AI wholesale. Good work vanishing.

These are the stories of working visual artists, who describe losing jobs, wages, and hope as their clients and bosses embrace AI.

Did some grisaille layers today. I'm still experimenting with my oil painting process, and I decided to try grisaille base layers for these paintings to see how they'd work. The left is a new still life experiment, and the right is a repaint of an older work of my digital era. #oil #oilpainting

The wall has been updated! Pieces on the top left are all complete, and the wall is looking nice! #art #wip
