I write about space, in several places. Used to write about other stuff? But now pretty much it's space. I also talk about gaming here, though. Also politics, sadly and mostly unwillingly, but I do try to damp it down a bit

As I said to a friend, being in Toronto is weird because the teams are usually kinda mid, but then you stop paying attention and they become these absolute monsters outta nowhere

Except the Leafs, but they're 20th century Red Sox levels of cursed so yeah

Like, just as a rule, you ain't doing a better deck than Perun, NOBODY does a better deck unless they're Steve Jobs or Al Gore, and he keeps that shit tightly focused.

Thing is, the deck is SUPPOSED to just support a person's presentation but people think they should put all the info in the deck itself so it becomes unreadable

Me, I like it when you get a handout of the deck and presenter's comments, as it helps ensure that the actual deck isn't a horrible mess

Thing is, you get the one you want on the second try, and because that first one comes so early I'm not actually losing out on anyone. Nor am I spending $$ on it.

I got Shotgun Princess and Moon Lady and Business Demon without any issue...

BUT NOT HAVING AN ACTUAL GRIEVANCE MAKES IT WORSE SOMEHOW!
spacetalk.collects.games
With Wuthering Waves it's particularly infuriating because I'll get SOME rare character really early, like after 10 rolls instead of 70

It's just that it's always the wrong one, usually Dollar Tree Sephiroth for some reason

It's like that South Park with Cartmanland, highest high then lowest low

Honestly you could do an Inverse Cramer thing with my fucking gacha coinflips and make a mint

If there's a 50/50 chance, rest assured I will lose it

Keeps me well away from the current Actual Gambling problem right now, though, guess that's kind of a win

Oh, addendum, I'm actually a pretty big proponent of "all tax credits should be refundable"

Done right, it's a rough-and-ready way to do targeted income support, or even an ersatz UBI

And again the whole "but all the calculations!" thing is ridiculous in 2025, let the computers handle it

Bubsy is mostly just a bog-standard SNES scrimblo, except it hates you and delights in your suffering

Bubsy 3D is uhhhh something different
spacetalk.collects.games
Stoked about Bubsy too, more must suffer as I once did

I mean they DID make a more powerful form of grass but that didn't go so well

(Funny thing is that I could be talking about shatter, K2 synthetics, OR the giant hogweed plant...and it'd still be a correct assessment in all of those cases)
aparker.io
we need to invent a more powerful form of grass for some of y'all to touch

Most of the arguments against presume that people are still filing by hand so the calculations are this huge burden

If they're filing by hand then THAT is the problem you need to be solving

But you can just have the IRS say "hey sport we saw you got kids so we lopped [x] bucks off your tax bill"

It is incredibly funny whenever an aspiring pundit discovers why Blizzard went with "rested" instead of "fatigue" in world of warcraft

It's always presented as this gotcha instead of a lesson saying "just do normal-ass progressive taxation with refundable credits, it'll all come out in the wash"
opinionhaver.bsky.social
I have listened and learned. I will NEVER AGAIN call for increased taxes (carceral, eugencicist). Instead, income transfers should be decided through tax credits (humane, progressive)

When people say we have a literacy crisis they need to include their fellow progressives and libs. Insane replies on a post that is just explaining the Child Tax Credit

They had to be bullied into accepting gay marriage. Hillary Clinton very especially opposed it, right around the same time in 08 that she was insisting that a black man couldn't be president.

You aren't going to win that election in the first place, because people will correctly understand that you're happy to throw THEM under the bus too.

And, meanwhile, the only people who'd actually applaud your choice will just vote Republican anyway. They're useless to you. Don't cater to them.

Feels like whichever skeleton crew is running humble bundle for Ziff these days got the message. MUCH better this month, V Rising and Cryptmaster would be worth it all on their own

So far I actually like the Switch 2 best when it's in kickstand mode, the new kickstand is honestly great and pairs well with those easily-detached joycons
spacetalk.collects.games
This take on the WiiU gamepad is one I agree with quite a bit, it's big but not heavy and mostly fine to hold

Like I was using the Switch 2 last night and honestly the weird weight situation means it might actually be LESS comfy than the WiiU screentroller, and that's wild

I kinda like the gamepad ngl.. people made it sound like the worst thing ever 😅

And it's also just got that general SaGa weirdness that I've enjoyed ever since I played the (fansubbed) Wonderswan version of the first SaGa game and also enjoyed with the (fansubbed) DS remake of SaGa 2.

You're always just kinda surfing along atop of the stuff the game throws at you.
spacetalk.collects.games
So yeah mostly the remake is "let's take FFL3 and turn it into an actual SaGa game instead of Portable Mystic Quest", which means that whole thing where you level stuff by doing stuff is back

But also you're constantly switching species depending on what you had for dinner

Now that the fan-translated DS remake of SaGa 3 actually works on a 3DS (with CFW), I've been trying it out and it's honestly a hidden gem

And I mean REALLY hidden, there's a grand total of one(1) FAQ on the game on the wholeass Internet, and it's mostly "this button is attack" stuff
