Happy to be doing my second summer solstice for 2026! Though only being 14 degrees south of the equator doesn't make it feel incredibly solstice-y 😄☀️

I do love to shop at bookstores when I travel but American Samoa has been particularly challenging on that front. I was so desperate I even asked a bartender (response? panicked look and vagueness 😄). Fortunately, I'm one of those librarians who visits public libraries when I travel 1/2

Saw the sun in American Samoa today and my heart was so, so happy.
Palm trees wave in the foreground with harbor waters and lush green forest growing on hills in the background. Forested hills surround an inlet with fluffy clouds in blue skies. I don't know for sure, but I assume that says something about merry Christmas in Samoan on a painted ocean wall with palm trees and fluffy cloudy skies.

Binged through the first season of Alien: Earth. Some of the things were pretty middling/annoying but now I've rediscovered my love of Timothy Olyphant and I want to bring this little cutie pie home (I don't even like Funko Pops!).

For the most part, it's looking like a mostly dry and warm start to December across much of the Southwest including much of California--with the major exception of the Central Valley, where a cold/damp tule fog layer may persist for a while yet. [Thread]

I'm rewatching the 1983 tv miniseries V! I have Millennial friends who profess to have zero understanding of popular culture items released before they were born. Sucks to be them that they can't even begin to imagine the shared cultural experience of a tv miniseries.
This is the image I remember most from my original watch back in 1983 - a brunette teenage girl is talking on a cordless phone about having a crush on a cute blond alien boy. Her dialog - You saw him? Isn't he a hunk? I know. All said in a wonderful 80s patois. Mostly it was the cordless phone that really stuck in my memory, as seen in this foggy scene with a teenage girl gushing, "I brought the phone outside so I could watch for him." As the alien "he" approaches from the foggy background.
