Clinical Research Coordinator (until we all lose our jobs).

I'm here for hope, laughter, & civility. Also book recommendations, people posting joyfully about their art & lives, and maybe to find some hobbies.

Here for the hard conversations, too.
Two quick questions related to accessibility in the BlueSky app:

1. Is there a setting I've overlooked that allows me to increase the font size of my feed?

The fact that the "fight antisemitism on campus" movement has in practice become a smokescreen to both promote Islamophobia and shut down higher education more broadly, is going to have such deleterious long-term effects on the safety of both Jews AND Muslims in this country.

Y'all. I had to take a break from social media, and on my return I've discovered that something happened between Kendrick and Drake, but I have no idea what it is. I was also blissfully unaware of a lot of the awful that's happening. 1/2

I need something constructive to do during my daily commute. Anybody know any good podcasts about community organizing? Or nonviolent ways to fight fascism?

I need to get back to work. Instead, I'm in my car crying because things like this are happening, & these rich motherfuckers want to cut SNAP, CHIP, Medicaid, and special funding.

I know my tears aren't useful, but I'm so angry and heartbroken, crying is all my body will do right now.

I cannot, during these horrific times, recommend enough the importance of making pockets of time to just do things that are not related to anything but the joy of being alive and playing. You need it. You do. It will keep you whole. Which we need. We need you whole.

Without downloading any new pics, what’s your energy going into 2025?

Ok. I'm an hour into this "beginner" crochet project (a jellyfish). I have a magic circle and 4 stitches. That's it.
My biggest problem has been maintaining tension on both the circle and the stitches at the same time. The way the person in the tutorial video was doing it was NOT working for me. 1/

I mentioned recently that since I became a parent of twins, I no longer have any hobbies; I don't have the time, energy, or brain power for my previous interests.

I then received 2 beginner crocheting kits and 2 embroidery kits for Hanukkah.

I'm going to document my "new hobby" adventures here.
a woman is knitting a piece of purple yarn in front of a moonshine logo
Alt: A woman wears a perplexed expression as she painstakingly attempts to execute the next stitch in her recently-begun rectangular project made of purple yarn. Her expression is similar to the one I expect I'll be wearing as I learn how to crochet and embroider. My loved ones may be similarly confused as they gaze upon the [what exactly is that?] that I have created for them. Side note: My mom was really into quilting, cross stitch, and all manner of crafts. My rebellion was to refuse to learn even basic sewing skills. My one consolation since her passing is that she's not around to say, "I told you you'd enjoy crafting one day!"

Let's look at the details. 🧵

Hi folks. I'm new to BlueSky. I don't usually have much to say in spaces like this - by the time I'm done with work and parenting, I'm not usually generating ideas worth sharing.

But I love reading your thoughts, seeing your art, hearing about your day.
