My 80 year old uncle who fought in multiple wars against fascists just went on a whole rant about how the US treats Black people. And I love him even more now for teaching me that elderly Bosniaks do get other struggles outside of their own.

Something I didn’t realize I was missing in my life was EVEN MORE WOMEN. Nothing compares to this exchange of love and connection through language, tradition and compassion. Braiding each other’s hair, sharing stories from the past, teaching each other new skills/crafts, singing until it hurts, etc.

Had to get a physical to transfer my US driver’s license to a Bosnian one and HOLY SHIT what a traumatic experience. The doctor basically forced me to take off my shirt just to listen to my heart. As someone who has worked in the medical field for nearly a decade, I know that’s not necessary. WTF 🤬

Met some folks who recently moved back from various parts of the world. I’ve listened quietly to their criticisms of our country. I’m thankful my parents taught me to love what’s mine however broken it is. I simply refuse to focus on the worst parts of BiH when I explicitly chose to return to it.
