You won't be able to talk to a customer service rep any more, and the chatbot you'll talk to will be less capable; you'll simply give up on getting the service you would be getting previously. This will be regarded by the business as a cost saving. That's the most likely economic impact of chatbots.

Not at all clear that the extent to which they are good at code outweighs the extent to which they make software developers worse at it

Thanks for the heads up, I am going to download that when I get home! this wasn’t even for in-game stuff tho, I just couldn’t get screen captures to work at all. I eventually installed flameshot, but that apparently also doesn’t work with popOS so I had to grab a fork off github

There’s a definite degree to which part of the value proposition is sacrificing easy solutions for something you feel ownership of, and that probably has varying immediate appeal to different folks! I am enjoying that it is making me be deliberate and do research, even if its also annoying at times

So I guess my advice is to pick one or two things you want to be able to do (for me it was play games and run Godot), look around to see what distros people are using for that, and then give it a go rather than try to pick the perfect thing up front

the thing that kept me from getting on Linux for so long, which I suspect stymied a lot of folks, is less a lack of technical know-how than it is know-*why*. There’s a lot of choices to make and it can be pretty daunting to evaluate those choice without really getting the stakes
