We managed to get some enthusiastic ringing in this morning before the very hot rain arrived. Sadly I lost count of how many ringers we had, but we rang rounds, called changes, Plain Bob Doubles (with 768 behind), and Grandsire Triples.

I have discovered my dream job DOES exist!

Taylors Bellfoundry has a museum, and there is a museum director.

MUSEUM. CAMPANOLOGY. ALL IN ONE.

Sadly in Loughborough. But apparently walking distance to a steam train & a canal.

do you have any idea how much you have to piss somebody off to make them change their gauge
#Finland will begin to #Russia - proof its rail network, integrate with EU train infrastructure.

The Finnish government has announced the conversion of its rail network from Russian gauge (1,524 mm) to European standard (1,435 mm).

I'm SEETHING about this week's challenge travle. You have to get from the Bay of Campeche to the Red Sea by boat. Fine. But if you try to enter the Gulf of Arden as your last gulf, you can't complete. Apparently the correct water body was "regions.AdeG" and nearly every person has gotten that wrong.

Well done Philip! We've not met, but his work is exemplary, and I gather he's annoyingly lovely to boot

100%

You know what would also save 10 mins on an airport trip? Regular and dependable mass transit like light rail, MRT, etc.

Most of us could fit happily on a flat floor tram (etc) to the front door of the airport, saving a lot of traffic on the road for those who do need to drive
this is so much of right-of-centre politics in NZ, just scolding the left for not caring about real issues like saving 10 minutes on an airport trip. who cares if the standard speed limit will instantly kill any child hit by a car, it might takes 1 minute longer to drive through this school zone
$4 BILLION to save 'up to 10 minutes' during peak traffic. Fucking hell - imagine what that $4B could do for housing, education, health, etc, in Aotearoa.

Oh yeah, fuck off. It costs you nothing to wear it. "I don't want to wear it for religious reasons" and "I won't wear it to not single out my friend".

This is impressive for several reasons. I can't ring full peals anymore, so I'm a little jealous too
…I made this?? I made this!!

(I also conducted the peal!)

Ian (organizer of the peal and ringer of the treble) commissioned it and requested that it include a representation of the cathedral

At what point do we publicly accept that NZ is deeply corrupt and the only reason why we don’t have a culture of direct payoffs and bribery (that we cite as the evidence for us not being corrupt) is because it’s not needed? The boys club gets what it wants through people playing their social roles.

If the barrel keeps having rotten apples put in, or apples are turning rotten once inside, at what point do you accept there’s a system problem?

Why are rotten apples put in? Why are they going rotten once in?

And why aren’t (more) politicians asking this about police?
