I had only heard about the on-fabric thing recently and haven't managed to dive down on it yet; I was mostly thinking of doing the laced plated since the plates should be pretty easy to model. (I totally blame this image for inspiring it because OH MY GODS)

Let me grab a few, since I have some handy. I figured it out when a print failed after a first layer and I was like... 'you know, these weird little hexagon shapes would make kickass sturdy sequins' and then went hog wild with it. (Tiny vase mode pods are today's project.)
