A group of hikers on Dukono in Indonesia almost died earlier this month. Don't be another statistic and give volcanoes the respect they deserve: www.discovermagazine.com/planet-earth...
Don't Hike on Active Volcanoes
It feels like it goes without saying, but people get injured and die when they decide to trek up restless volcanoes.

Information and timeline keeps refreshing, so many crowdfunding and volunteering lawyers for the arrested and the hospitalized.

Just like 2019 - our friends in Sulawesi would always face such extreme violence during demonstration. I would always hold their spirit in the highest regard.

What began as a quick write up of the carbonate sediments of Aitutaki, Cook Islands has ended up as three posts
- Seamounts, hotspots, and atolls
- Cook Islands seamounts and volcanoes

and the latest
- Aitutaki's (Cook Islands) sedimentary carapace

Aitutaki's (Cook Islands) sedimentary carapace
Aitutaki, its peripheral islands, sand bars, and coral-algal reef are the shallow expression of an isolated, mid-ocean carbonate platform.

I have re-read 'The Horror in the Museum' by Lovecraft and you know what... I take back what I've said, because if these stories do happen in real life it WOULD bother me!

Honestly, all of my outing/fieldtrip experiences during high school were always accompanied by some questionable moments, I'm shocked nobody went out of their way to actually report what happened 🙃

I watched it......... I watched soap opera in the cinema. Questionable.
So tempted to watch Ipar Adalah Maut just to experience communal hatred over characters cheating on their spouse on the screen 😔

Finally had time to hike up Nglanggeran Ancient Volcano. Volcanic breccia and agglomerates as far as the eye can see.

This is going to continue happening as everything gets hotter. Seattle had problems similar to this during the 2021 heat dome. Climate change is an *infrastructure problem* along with all the other types of problems.
How hot is NYC? A bridge got stuck open.

The vertical clearance of the bridge is only about 25 feet. The Harlem River connects with the East River at its southern end and the Hudson at its northern end. Video is from the executive producer of the NBC affiliate in NYC.

Young (future) geologist tend to forget that geological processes still is happening and would assume whatever topographic condition we're seeing = created around how old the surrounding rock is. I had the pleasure of being super frustrated during my 1st year comprehending how wide the GTS is (1/2)

The thrust structures in the Appalachians are old, the topography that we see today is not--there's a lot of fun Cenozoic dynamic topography effects proposed for the Eastern U.S. (trying to find if a good review paper on this exists....) that explains this and post-Pliocene high coastal plains.
