Desperately need society to stop rewarding cruelty. To stop unleashing gratuitous, sociopathic cruelty. I think this is a phenomenon driven by the right but it’s infected all of us to one degree or another, and we need to remain cognizant of wanting not to be this way.

(RNS) — Last month, the Rev. David Black stood in front of a Chicago-area U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility and spread his arms wide. Adorned in all black and wearing a clerical collar, the pastor looked up at a group of masked, heavily armed ICE agents on the roof and began to pray.

“I invited them to repentance,” Black, a minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), said in an interview. “I basically offered an altar call. I invited them to come and receive that salvation, and be part of the kingdom that is coming.”

But when Black began to lower his arms a few seconds later, the agents responded to his spiritual plea by firing pepper balls, or chemical agents that cause eye irritation and respiratory distress, video footage shows. One struck Black in the head, exploding into a puff of white pepper smoke and forcing him to his knees. Fellow demonstrators rushed to his aid, and as the pastor rubbed his face in pain, the agents continued to fire.

“We could hear them laughing,” Black said.

The other day there was a guy on here screaming "let rural patients die" at a hospital chaplain who helped the underprivileged, it was one of those "rurals should touch the stove" things, and when I suggested he was being too mean I was called MAGA and a bot

My experience has been that it's automated moderation first, then a human will get to it weeks later. In one case it worked out well enough, but in the 2nd case, automod hid a guy who had been harassing me and friends, then a human came in and undid that and we were suddenly flooded with hate speech

It's all insane. All of it. We also didn't do anything about Operation Mockingbird or COINTELPRO or Operation CHAOS or Operation SHAMROCK or the CIA spying on the Senate post-9/11 or SCOTUS giving W. Bush the presidency or Watergate or anything, and it's terrifying.

It doesn't make sense for them to spend days saying the reason Bluesky is great is because it shows you can make and control your own instance, then go out of their way to ban someone on Blacksky out of spite, which proves Bluesky still actually controls the other instances, too

Unfortunate update: Link reached out to BlueSky and got email back now on reason.

His appeal is denied. He will remain permanently banned on BlueSky’s side.

A lot of these pundits talk about working class liberals in rural areas but do not want to hear from ACTUAL working class liberals in rural areas; most just ignore me but every so often one of these guys who spent more on college than I've made in a lifetime will lecture me on class, it's not great

The local press is saying there's an investigation and the investigators are saying they don't know if it was accident or arson yet BUT they said the fire started with an explosion, and they've asked "local law enforcement to provide extra patrols and security"
