🤣I was not best pleased with him but he assures me that no idiocy was involved. As my colleagues are leading the trip, I can only hope that he is telling me the truth! 😬

The boyo is in Berlin on a school trip. Just got a call from him, asking me to message the teacher because somebody has locked themselves in the bathroom.

I preface this by saying that the choice made was a very fine choice and one that I applaud.
However, if it was going to be somebody else…

Thomas Pynchon?
Agustin Fernandez Mallo?

Ha! But that is a clincher in my opinion… 👏👏👏

Today on BBC Radio4: 'Song of the Deer' reimagines the monumental C18th Gaelic poem, 'Moladh Beinn Dobhrain' - 'In Praise of Ben Dorain' - a celebrated Munro in the Scottish Highlands - featuring my husband Garry MacKenzie's translation! 🥳

Watching this on Sunday as part of #LFF screenings in Belfast. The trailer is a bit Hollywood but the talent attached and the source novel make me optimistic that it will be 😍😍😍😍

Yeesh, I can only imagine…

Very often the case in a lot of early cinema (and Tarkovsky’s ‘Andrei Rublev’ too, I believe). I can understand it being a red line for some in terms of viewing.

Oh it’s wonderful! Along with The Turin Horse, it’s my favourite Tarr film.

Just found my copy of ‘The Melancholy of Resistance’ in my classroom. Such a good book (and I love the film adaptation, ‘Werckmeister Harmonies’ too). #BookSky💙📚

It's a great day to remember how important a translator like @ottiliemulzet.bsky.social is for those of us who can only read in English.
Without her superb translations, we would have missed so much of the great work of László Krasznahorkai.

I took this picture of Olga and László in London in 2018. Congrats to Krasznahorkai and his translators, including George Szirtes and @ottiliemulzet.bsky.social, and long live a Central Europe free of dictators (foreign and domestic) and full of magnificent minds like these!

I don’t doubt it! It is currently sitting on my shelf at home and this is a good spur to get to it… 👍

I have only read ‘The Melancholy of Resistance’ (great novel) but I have seen Tarr&Krasznahorkai’s film adaptation of ‘Satantango’. A singular voice with a VERY blackly comic worldview…
