3️⃣ Things NBA Preview: Houston Rockets

⏭️ Reed Sheppard, come on down
🌎 Amen Thompson, all over
👣 Big ball, overwhelming?

Sheppard is suddenly one of the most important players in the NBA this season.

Thompson is my favorite player in the NBA.

Are the Rockets going to play four PF/Cs at once?
Three Things NBA Preview: Houston Rockets
As I detailed a few weeks ago, I’m once again re-appropriating the Three Things I Noticed on League Pass format to preview the upcoming season. Instead of three things I noticed, it’ll be something mo...

This article makes me want to drink heavily. Not that Howard didn't do a great job with it - of course he did - but bc it points to how much of NBA glory comes down to luck, and navigating the unexpected.

And he shot 67% in the paint for a 15-year stretch! LeBron's like if Shaq and J Kidd had a baby.

One fun thing from going back over old copy: LeBron has scored 19,708 points *in the paint* in his career. If he'd never made a jumper or a free throw, he'd be 58th on the all-time scoring list.

Guarantee he asked either Uncle Jeff or DeAndre this his rookie season 🤣

Even if you don’t believe in the ethic of “love thy neighbor,” it’s important to remember that the core goal of USAID is to use soft power (foreign aid) to complement our nation’s hard power (the U.S. military) in a shared effort to make America safer.

Next up: I wrote about the Hornets, LaMelo-as-weathervane, and a squint-and-you-can-see-it core: yhoo.it/3KA0Za1

And Ben wrote about the Blazers, and whether Scoot Henderson's time has come (or, whether it will once his hamstring heals): yhoo.it/3IBIC47

Yep. There are really solid cases to be made for all three as the GOAT (depending on what you value most), and basically no one else.

Someone recently asked me if I thought LeBron or Jordan was the GOAT. I gave that person the correct answer: "there are 3 legitimate answers for greatest of all time—Jordan, LeBron, & Kareem. All 3 won everything they could have during their careers. We can't determine it further than that"

Addendum to this:

Jonathan Kuminga's deal may come in a bit lower than initially reported. If so, that will add to the space the Warriors are under the second apron. Every little bit helps to re-sign Seth Curry earlier. Per day veteran min amount is just over $13K.
keithsmithnba.bsky.social
Sounds like De'Anthony Melton is getting a two-year minimum deal from the Warriors. That means his cap/tax/apron hit goes from $2.3M to $3.1M.

Warriors will be about $1.2M under their second-apron hard cap. That means they can re-sign Seth Curry (he's on Ex. 9) around January 10.

This is a very elegant, very well-thought-out declaration of war.

I hope we get a true reminder season from De’Aaron Fox. The blend of driving, growing pull-up comfort, playmaking, and POA defense when locked in is tantalizing.

Gotta stay healthy, gotta find a better balance of PUs & drives from when we saw him.

An understandable gamble from SA.
